Every day on NFL radio they say if you have the cap space you need to use it. Building a foundation through the draft is fine but you have to add the pieces in FA to compete.

Trent is acting like he's in no danger of being fired. If there are no additions to the OL or pass rush I really don't see them making it to an 8-8 season.

So I take it that, Baalke is at home sitting on his ass waiting by the phone watching Soap Operas then.

So you have another explanation on why no free agents are being signed or brought in for a visit??
and also maybe trent is in no danger of being fired. the only people who think that are some people on the zone. the roster on march 15th is hardly the same roster we will field on august 15th people if it is,, then we have a different conversation

You keep saying this. Who is out there that is going to help this OL? Don't tell me about some hurt old O linemen that wasn't even a top 100 FA. There is no one on the market now that was better than Boone. The chance of Trent drafting a 1 year stud OL is about 10%. So, why can't we have a conversation now about us sucking?

So right now we need to hope that.
Trent hits a stud OL in the draft.
One of the young 2nd year guys steps up to become a stud.
No one can get hurt.
Devey is nowhere near even the practice squad of this team at any point during the year.

Fingers crossed man.
It's been said that Chris Johnson is close to signing, but hasn't had any visits. I wonder if we are one of the teams he is considering. Could maybe be a good, cheap option to spell Hyde.

EDIT: Never mind, forgot we signed Draughn.

It makes more sense to build a foundation through the draft and have a 7 or 8 win team that is a FA infusion away from competing for the playoffs. I mean I don't agree with what we are doing, because there were guys young enough that we could have signed that still would have been at a good age when we are ready to compete in a year or 2, i do see the process behind it though. If you spend a lot when you are not good, it hinders your chances to start spending when you become a competitive team.

We had solid pieces before Jim showed up. They got Goodwin to solidify the OL with a couple more pieces. Along with good coaching we were awesome.

We had a chance to do the exact same thing with Mack on the market. Problem is I don't see good FA wanting to come here.

Yeah, no one wants to play in Santa Clara.

you keep saying that but who exactly has come in for an actual visit that rejected us for another team. the term" showing interest",," rumored to be interested" are a helluva lot different that " such and such is in the house"

Overspending on say 2 solid guys is chump change with $60m to work with.

I was hoping for a solid OL and CB. Just 2 spots that drastically help your team. For what? A few millions more per year?

Something else is going on here. Trent and Paraag can't be this tight, can they?

Huge difference between signing Goodwin and Mack. About $24 million in guaranteed money.

EDIT: Signing a 'Goodwin' today would be Will Montgomery or Lyle Sendlein.

Top FA don't come in for visits. LOL Pat Kirwan said the other day Top guys don't take visits they take cash.

If you're a top 20 rated FA your agents is taking calls for you and you tell him yes or no then show up to sign the deal. Most of the good FA already agreed to terms the day before FA contracts could be signed.

I don't think we had $60m is cap space back then?

But Mack wanted to play for Shanahan. Aside from making Kyle Shanahan our head coach, we had no chance to sign him.

Totally fair and I agree really the only thing I was hoping for was at least some OL depth to help at LG. I think having a better OL coach and scheme can only help plus we do have a bunch of young players on the roster.

I agree Devey shouldn't be anywhere near this team come time to make cuts. I've said my peace on why I think Schwarz is a no brainer to bring in at the very least at the vet min for depth.

I hope they go after someone like Westerman in the draft and this Colin Kelly cat from the CFL looks like he could be a athletic guard for us.

One other option is getting someone like Ryan Kelly in the 2nd or 3rd and push Kigore to LG as well?

It's a bummer that FA hasn't gone how we all thought it would but like you said if we can get a couple studs in this draft we will have a s**t ton of cash and still more picks then most in 2017.

We didn't but Goodwin wasn't even close to the player mack is and the cash was worlds different. I don't think Mack wanted to go to another rebuild either.

That's because Trent signed a FA CB gave him $1m never played him then cut him so backup Acker had to play more.
