This. Who should the 49ers have signed that would have satisfied people?

You right Thad Lewis is great.

How about a freaking starting caliber OG who doesn't get pushed 5 yards into the backfield on every play.

So you're telling me that Ware, Talib, Sanders, ward etc. had no impact on the Broncos winning the superbowl? Broncos have been a top spender in free agency over the past 4 seasons. Free agency has its place and the 49ers will have spend money tto get players in here. They have far to many holes to expect to fill just through the draft. So f add there is absolutely nothing for fans to get excited about for next season.

Not as much as Von Miller and the rest of the Broncos players that were already around did. Kind of like when the 49ers added Whitner, Rogers, Goodwin..etc to an already highly talented core that was built primarily through the draft.

I don't think anyone is arguing that you build an entire team though FA. But you have to add pieces through FA like Denver did is what we are saying.
Do not understand this all or nothing approach. Can someone tell me why this team cannot improve the team through the draft AND free agency? They are not mutually exclusive. The more needs you are able to fill via free agency the less you have during the draft. 60 million is cap space and this team is looking at signing bums. They are really trying their best to make sure Levis is empty this season. Seems like the team believes Anthony Davis is coming back and by some chance that he does he will pick up right where he left off despite not playing football for more than a year . Thankfully it is an even numbered year and baseball is coming up soon so you know what that means...

Nah, much better to have the 72nd, 73rd and 74th ranked o-lineman than actual dudes who can protect a QB.

So we should operate based on rare exceptions and not pretty well established methods on how to build a team. Got it.

Also, specifically which of the already signed players should we have signed at the salary that they commanded?

It's like you don't understand how bad this roster is and the cost it's going to take to get FA's here because of it. Alex Mack and Brandon Brooks would have provided an instant upgrade to an offensive line that was ranked bottom five in DVOA last year.

It's like you don't understand "value." As a real GM and not just someone that plays one on playstation, you have to think long term.

Meaning, are Brooks and Mack going to be worth it 2-3 years from now? What's the difference in value between them and "second tier" FAs? Are there comparable options in the draft? Does it make more sense to trade for a guy? Of course, at the end of the day it's a gamble but it is NOT always a matter of going out and getting any and everyone that's better than what you have on the roster.

Players aren't paid with monopoly money, you know.

Exactly, sitting on your hands and paying bargain-basement prices for guys who are already proven to be terrible isn't a good way to improve a roster that doesn't have a lot of talent to begin with.
Baalke still driving around the Niners' parking lot, dragging Super Bowl trophies, hoping to get fired!

Again, your taking an outlier and applying it across the board. Yes, Denver added some pretty big names in FA and it worked out for them. Now, go back ten years and look at every team that won a chip. How many got there by blowing cap space on average to slightly above average free agents?

Seattle? Pats? Ravens? Giants? Packers?

I could go on.

I could too. You're doing the same exact thing. We are not the Redskins, Browns, or Raiders. Every one of those teams you listed has won a superbowl recently and every one of them has drafted better than the 49ers.

Uh, building through the draft *was* my point.

Not sure what you're saying here.

Four things about today...........
1) Liked that they signed Ian Williams. Keeping him was a positive.
2) Like that they are in the running for Sean Smith. Losing to the Raiders on this guy would suck big time. Get it done!
3) If the Broncos actually approached the Niners about Kaep, why didn't they listen to an offer? Apparently they turned them down flat. Just dumb IMO
4) Baalke and the front office closed the day with news about two scrubs who shouldn't even be considered this early in the offseason. That is so typical and frankly embarrassing,

Gabbert should get some life insurance. Kap is like f**k this s**t get me the f**k out of here. Don't blame him either because what ever QB is playing gonna get murdered.

It's like you don't understand this team has $60 million dollars in cap space right now and Trent is too buys tendering terrible players like Jordan Devey and bringing in the dregs of the FA period in Larsen to try and help out the o-line. Do you really think we're going to fill ALL of these holes through the draft? With Baalke's track record, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Vernons guarentee was an absolutely rediculous 40 million. More per year than Watt
