Larsen on his way to SF!!! Might as well lock it up boys and girls. We're getting a mediocre player

lol I wish he was mediocre, his pff rating is -25

Hope Baalke doesn't draft Goff, gonna get him killed.

Technically Gabbert will get killed this year. The new GM will fix the OL in 2017 for Goff.

Makes sense.

We can do better than Larsen. He is another Eric Pears.
I want us to look into Jahri Evans.

Seriously at least Evans is proven who the f**k is Ted larsen lol
My expectations were set too high, i em sad 2day

Also, Justin Smith is an outlier. Free agents more often than not get worse, not better.

We go through this every blessed year. Again, for the people in the back: championships are NOT won in free agency!

While true, it still adds talent. Losing Gore, Willis, Justin, and Aldon was a major blow. None of the holes have been filled. I just want a stable OL and right now we have another hole and are brining in more trash like last year.

Historically, teams that spend big in FA, tend to improve very little. If they did improve a lot, all these teams that have been spending huge amounts for years on end wouldn't be continually struggling. People make a big deal over it but the draft is a far better predictor of success.

Why is it that we see the same teams, year after year, spending huge amounts of money and with nothing to show for it.

So you're telling me that Ware, Talib, Sanders, ward etc. had no impact on the Broncos winning the superbowl? Broncos have been a top spender in free agency over the past 4 seasons. Free agency has its place and the 49ers will have spend money tto get players in here. They have far to many holes to expect to fill just through the draft. So f add there is absolutely nothing for fans to get excited about for next season.

Again, your taking an outlier and applying it across the board. Yes, Denver added some pretty big names in FA and it worked out for them. Now, go back ten years and look at every team that won a chip. How many got there by blowing cap space on average to slightly above average free agents?

Seattle? Pats? Ravens? Giants? Packers?

I could go on.

Nope. You still dont overpay to that extreme. It has never worked out for a team in the history of FA. please provide examples if you feel otherwise.

Justin Smith is a perfect example of being a lot of money at the time off the top of my head that worked out pretty well for the 49ers.

He was 6 year 45 million. Wasnt outpacing the top paid guys on defense at the time at all, not even close.

He was the highest paid FA DE in 2008 by a pretty large margin. Only defensive lineman that got a bigger contract was Tommy Kelly because they tacked on an extra year, so Justin's AV was still higher.

Darelle Revis is overpaid, Aqib Talib is overpaid, Demarcus Ware is overpaid. I could keep going and the last two of those guys just won a Super Bowl.

So we should operate based on rare exceptions and not pretty well established methods on how to build a team. Got it.

Also, specifically which of the already signed players should we have signed at the salary that they commanded?

This. Who should the 49ers have signed that would have satisfied people?

G JR Sweezy's deal with the Bucs: five years, $32.5 million.

LOLOLOLOLOL
The latest news on Ted Larsen:

Free agent OL Ted Larsen will visit the 49ers.
Larsen was, flatly, terrible for the Cardinals last season, but can play any spot along the interior. The 49ers need a new left guard after losing Alex Boone, but would be thinking about as small as possible if they were looking at Larsen for a guaranteed starting job. Mar 9 - 6:43 PM

Just wish Baalke would get his head out of his ass and try to do something with a talented player for a change.

It's like you don't understand how bad this roster is and the cost it's going to take to get FA's here because of it. Alex Mack and Brandon Brooks would have provided an instant upgrade to an offensive line that was ranked bottom five in DVOA last year.

Well, virtually none of those holes can be filled in FA. Who out there is an adequate replacement for Gore, Willis, or Justin Smith? FYI, Aldon fell off, so he doesn't count. I'm right there with you on the o-line though. I think Osemele was worth a look but definitely not at the price Oakland paid for him. Also, I wouldn't have minded us retaining Boone because of his versatility but his attitude has "I just want to get paid" all over it.

Next year will tell the story on him.

LOL. Justin Smith was dvery good in Cin and was paid accordingly. Not overpaid. That DE group stunk lutside of Smith too. Oakland splurged that year on Kelly and Javon Walkers ludicrous contract. That is what the Giants and Oalkland and Jags are doing today.

I could too. You're doing the same exact thing. We are not the Redskins, Browns, or Raiders. Every one of those teams you listed has won a superbowl recently and every one of them has drafted better than the 49ers.

What these people that keep posting about way too much these contrcts are have to realize that in the NFL, it isn't guarantteed. I wish you people would just concentrate on just the guaranteed part of the money and not the length or total of it.
