I don't think there's any way he doesn't make the team. In fact now that Culliver is out for the season its almost certain that he's going to start. Even if Brock balls out and wins the job, Nnamdi will still see plenty of snaps in man/press situations. Glad he's on the team.

What does it even mean to be "consistent" at corner? Nobody defends every pass. Is he not defending enough passes? Is he defending most but then falling down on his face on the others. Is he giving up more big plays than other players?
I would prefer an inconsistent play-maker to a consistent, safe, play with a 20 yard cushion corner.

This. I don't think he said anything bad. nfl.com is making it sound like the 49ers aren't sure about him because his play so far has been not so good. Everything I read about him in camp has been good news. He's always knocking balls away and or getting his hands on guys and forcing them off their spots.I don't think there's any way he doesn't make the team. Another thing to keep in mind is Nnamdi has already made his name, and the CB spot is an open competition. If Vic came out and openly praised Nnamdi, the media would interpret it as Nnamdi won the job which then could cause drama within the competition. By downplaying Nnamdi, he's keeping everyone on an equal level and also letting Nnamdi know that he will need to keep working and competing to win the roster spot.
