Per @JasonLaCanfora, Emmanuel Sanders arriving in town tonight for his visit. Curious if it's serious visit, or "feeling out" like Edelman

I'd like to get younger and get some guys for 4 years instead of more guys at 1-2 years that are 27+. Give me Verrett or Matthews... possibly Beckham or Fuller.

I think we sign both. They each fill specific needs. We need a nickel corner and a future replacement for Boldin.
I think we can get him on a one year deal and leave the rest to the draft

Sure they fill specific needs but if we are going to do more 1 year deals I'd rather just use the draft and get a 22-23 year old for 4 years than a 27 year old for a year or two that likely isn't the future. I guess it depends on how much the deal is for. 3 mil a year for 1-2 years isn't a big deal.... As long as it's a smaller money deal I wouldn't mind Sanders or Thurmond. They both are some what risky.
Niners offering more guaranteed $ than the Chiefs. Signs point to Sanders signing on short term.

Deezy's nuts?

but seriously Sanders tweeted out a farewell to Pittsburgh about an hour so he's probably made/close to a decision.

How are they risky? Drafting and developing a WR is going to take at least 2 years. We know Sanders can play, and he will be ready to step in for Boldin as soon as its needed. Our WR depth is terrible. Signing Sanders gives us not only depth right now, but future depth, with Patton being the future WR3.

With his foot issues, I highly doubt Sanders is going to cling onto a big money deal. He will either take a 1-2 year deal to increase his value, or he will sign an incentive based longer term deal thats backloaded.

Thurmond isnt even 27 yet, and has proven himself to be one of the best nickel corners in the league. He provides size and physicality at a position were hurting at right now. He also wont cost a ton.

Both signings make a ton of sense for us. Neither will kill us money wise, and they fit what we need to do. Getting them would help allow us to draft based on best available talent instead of position of need.

I meant they are risky if you do long term deals with them for big money. For a 1 year cheap deal it's not too risky and I'm fine with it. But if it's a long term deal then the risk would be that Thurmond has missed a lot of games due to injury and with Sanders how big of an issue is the foot thing. So I wouldn't offer either a long term big money deal but I'm fine with a 1-2 year year deal for low money like I said before.

Receivers on 49ers roster right now:

Michael Crabtree
Anquan Boldin
Quinton Patton
Jonathan Baldwin
David Reed
Chuck Jacobs
Devon Wylie
Brandon Carswell
DeMarco Sampson

Damn that's some bodies at WR!!!

And possibly two or three more will be added.

I doubt Thurmond expects a long term deal. Hes not a number 1 CB type guy.

In the NFL its all about guaranteed money. The 49ers will show him a number that theyre comfortable with, and he will have to decide. The rest is all performance based, and can be manipulated later. In the past weve seen the 49ers cap experts negotiate contracts down later to help the team, and the players agree to it. It can be backloaded, and if hes not cutting it by the time it escalates, he can be cut, or can restructure.

I personally see the foot issue as minor, and something that will just give us better value. Maybe we get him for a better deal because of the foot thing, and hes over it before next season even starts? I see Sanders as a high potential guy for a relatively low price. He was hidden behind the shadow of Antonio Brown last year, so hes a bit under the radar.
What's his speed on Madden?

Cept only Crabtree, Boldin, and Patton have 53 man roster spots. The rest are total fliers. Jacobs seems somewhat interesting, but the rest are longshots to even make the team. I got the impression that Baldwin didnt have much time left with us either.

Crabtree
Boldin
Sanders
Patton
Baldwin (for now)

Im much more comfortable with that corps if Sanders is there.
nvm

Agree. One more player with some proven production like Sanders would be ideal. Add 2 more WRs in the draft. Just stock up on talent and let these guys battle it out. Nobody other than Boldin and Crabtree should be guaranteed any type of role.
