That is exactly what this means

Not sure about this. Armstead hasn't really been given any opportunity to either impress or otherwise at this position. I think what it means is, you can never have too much pass rush. Dude was available. We had the money. Bam. We have an organisation now which will go out and get what it wants.

Man, what is our final 53 gonna look like with all this competition we're bringing in? I'm lovin the front office effort.

I think that's the biggest message of this signing. I think Elvis will also serve to motivate Lynch. I think Armstead will become a rotational guy at the other three spots, but he could still be very effective in that role.

This. AA can still "start" at LEO on base run downs and help collapse the pocket and set teammates up for stunts. Then, slide inside and rotate (since Z noted we'd rotate every 5 plays or so) and THEN Elvis would come in at LEO on pass rush downs. It' a great way to utilize two players strengths until we can find a 23 year old who can play LEO every down for us.

I think that's the key. We are going to have 7-8 guys on the D-Line that can play and help us. If we rotate often, keep people fresh, and keep the opposing offense off balance, this could be an extremely productive position group.

No question. Saleh has to find the right combination of players now. There's no rule about using two players at one position if both player's can give you similar results of a premium player who can play every down. Z is big on rotation anyhow...so we'll have to see. Armstead to beat up the LT in base with bull rush/power and then Elvis blows by him with quickness/speed. That could be a tough day for a LT.

No, it's called adding competition and improving the team even if just slightly. I like the signing fine so long as it's financially low-risk for the most part. It's funny how the more things change the more they stay the same. Back in 2012 people around the NFL used to say the Niners were becoming like the Baltimore ravens west and not just because the brothers HC thing. Five years later we're still the damn Baltimore ravens West LOL. Which is still a helluva lot better than being the Cleveland Browns West.

Yeah, AA hasn't even been able to impress. This is strickley for depth in the rotation.
Is it a fact that he's the new Leo ? Or possible he's competing with Brooks for SAM?

Not to mention they're completely different players. If it was an indictment on anyone, it'd be the edge rushers we currently have.
Give me Maclin and call it an offseason!
I love the signing, Just wish it happened before the draft, as we could've went in a diff. direction. Love the Thomas pick, but With Dumervil and Lynch as potential backup (along with the rook) Leo looks to be covered. What will be do with Armstead??, he could come in on 3rd. downs as a LDE when Thomas kicks inside, but dat be a waste.. I like the signings, just don't know what it means for Armstead...

So you would've passed on Thomas if they signed Elvis before the draft?

huh
Now with Dumerviller with us then the front office can make more appropriate decisions and hopefully we will cut a lot of the fluff out of the defense. Pretty soon we should see some of the people getting cut. Carridine and Harold will have to produce or leave. Then Selah will have a more solid base of talent to firm up the Dline the Pass rush and the LBs and the backfield. This year there will not be so many holes in the defense.
