Elvis Dumervil

That is exactly what this means

Not sure about this. Armstead hasn't really been given any opportunity to either impress or otherwise at this position. I think what it means is, you can never have too much pass rush. Dude was available. We had the money. Bam. We have an organisation now which will go out and get what it wants.

Maybe... from what i have been hearing AA was the guy they "wanted" to fill that role... hard to say without camp, but id bet it's a little bit of both

At best at this point in his career Dumervil will be a rotational guy.

I think his signing shows little confidence with the guys we have on the roster on the opposite side of Thomas. You would think that with all the young talent lined up at DE (Armstead, Lynch, Blair, Harold) that these guys would be getting serious reps. They are not signing Elvis to be a camp body, but a guy that will be: either a starter, or a heavy contributor.

Little vote of confidence for the prospectful LEO's on the roster.

Yeah, and no secret there either. Edge rushing is by far, our #1 issue on defense. Brooks, Harold, Carradine, Pita, hell, even Lynch, better learn to bring the heat off this edge or this ol' man is going to kick you off the team or limit your ass to depth on the bench.

Interesting. I'm always for signing as many pass-rushers as possible and seeing where the cream rises to the top, probably more than any other group. Competition has just been raised. Now Lynch or Carradine or Harold aren't guaranteed spots simply because we don't have enough competent folks on the squad. This is such a smart signing. Again, keeping pass-rush on the priority list is just brilliant. 2 year deal really means a 1-year deal says they'll be looking for the next great pass-rusher in the draft next year.

Rotating in as a pure pass specialist... He and Ryan Kerrigan led the league in pressures last month of the season last year I read .

He had 6 sacks with Baltimore two years ago. 17 sacks the year before that with Suggs paired with him. I'm betting he's not going to be like his younger self, but if he's paired with a good 3-tech DT and doesn't have to worry about runs, he can be almost back to his old self.

http://www.espn.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/32903/ravens-elvis-dumervil-reveals-he-underwent-achilles-surgery-this-offseason

"[The Achilles] is way better. I can perform," Dumervil said. "I'm happy with the decision I made. Now, I don't have that lingering, 'Is it going to pop or is something going to happen?' It was good move. Now, I can go in the offseason and be healthy. I'm excited about that."

But will Dumervil be working this offseason with the Ravens? Dumervil has Baltimore's fourth-highest salary-cap number ($8.375 million) in 2017, and the Ravens would save $6 million by releasing him.

"I don't worry about those things," Dumervil said. "I know what I can do when I'm healthy. I didn't have real offseason training. It was kind of like camp and preseason types of games for me. I know the business part of it. I dealt with it in Denver. It's not personal. I know I have a lot in the tank, and it was probably a blessing in disguise that I didn't get a lot of mileage this year. I'm excited for next season in making sure that I'm in tip-top shape."

Ha...take your pick or add your own.

It's crazy. Gave me a headache just trying to predict, so I just shrugged my shoulders and accepted I have no idea what they're going to do this time around. Let the chips fall as they may.
I am very excited about our front 7.

Buckner, Thomas and Dumervil are three very good pass rushers. Throw in AA at LDE now instead of LEO with Thomas shifting inside and that is a front 4 that can create some havok. We have depth too with Mitchell, Blair, Jones, Pita, Dial, Lynch, and Carradine. We will be cutting some decent players.

3T- AA/Thomas - Dial
NT- Mitchell - DJ Jones
5T- Buckner - Blair - C. Jones
LEO- Dumervil - Lynch

Same at linebacker. After having to start 3rd stringers for most of the season we finally have some depth. The biggest battle will be between Bowman and Foster. I expect Bowman will now be a 2 down thumper and Foster will play the majority of the passing downs.

SAM- Brooks - Harold
MIKE- Bowman - Foster - Coyle
WILL- Smith - Armstrong - Watson

What a difference from last year. Lynch and Co. have done a fantastic job thus far.
I'm against playing Elvis on first downs... at the earliest I can see him going in on second downs.

I agree, I think the above players you mentioned better bring their A game to practice every day from now on. But I'm pulling for Pita - We got an old man with Elvis in the house, now we need some talented youth for Mr. Rock and Roll to impart his vast pass rushing experience to.
I love the signing!! what bothers me is how its received by some on this board. I guess the sky just has to "continue" to fall for some .. Had Seattle, NE. NO, or Oak. made this signing it'd be marked as a "cold calculating shrewd move" and wud get a 1,001 accolades. WE make the move, and we get all these damn ??????'s.. Jeez!
So does the team have to cut a player to add Dumervil ?
