Ricardo Lockette thread

Agreed! The reports have been good all off season though. Lockette is the kind of Baalke-chosen player to make the 53 that we see every single year. He gets little opportunities if any at all in pre season games and suddenly makes the team and we find ourselves scratching our heads and saying, "I didn't see that one coming!" So my point is, don't be surprised if he does make the 53 esp. now that Jenkins is gone. We know Baldwin has light-years to go to learn our playbook and Lockette is the one big-body we can play outside, opposite Boldin (and who knows our offense). Williams will get many of the X snaps but physically, he is no match against teams like Seattle. For those games, you'd want to move him inside to the slot a lot and have the big boys battle it out out wide! And Lockette/Baldwin/Boldin are our only big boys. The rest are all slot receivers.

I think at this point Lockette's best opportunity is to cling onto the 53 through special teams and hopefully in time he will get more WR chances later on.

That's another good point. He has gotten a lot of snaps on ST and is almost always the first gunner down there...either making the tackle or making the play.

Is that right ? If that's the case, then is very encouraging. Let's see whether he plays gunner again in the Vikings game.

Yeah, did a full player analysis for both games now for players vying for the 53 (I left all the starters/locks off). And of the coverage units, Lockette, D. Morris and Osgood are your top gunners by far. Lockette and Morris are the fastest for sure.

I agree that AJ being gone only helps Lockettes chances. He is the only one of the remaining WR left who has a real potential to be a top edge receiver to stretch that field. I am thinking that he might be kept as one of the gunners. The last few roster WR need to contribute on ST. Did not see him play there last weak( neither did Osgood) but that group really sucked. Sometimes it seems like Harbaugh plays those that he is checking out to deciding whether to cut or not.
Lockette taking his talents to South Beach.

for retirement.

I have seen Sherman, their best cover corner struggle against small quicker receivers. Rewatch last season where Seattle played the Lions and the Rams, Sherman had a tough time against those smaller faster WRs.

Good to see...but in Seattle, they will be allowed to mug/hold these little guys.
Looks like people here who were cautioning against the hype over Lockette were right all along.
