Vernon Davis is practically a receiver. Once, you factor him in too, it's not so bad. Boldin, VD, Williams (most underrated WR among niner fans) and Jenkins/Patton. That's not bad IMO.

And don't forget Vance..and Gore, Hunter & James out of the backfield. We'll be fine.

I think we'll be fine... I think Vance has the potential to be a really good TE, not a VD or Jimmy graham but maybe like an Owen Daniels. 450-550 yards

VD will fill the role as our #1 reciever and Boldin our #2. I really like Williams and Patton intrigues me more than Jenkins. If Jenkins can show anything at all which I'm sure he can I think we are good to go.

Manningham and Crabtree will be nice lil bonuses come November / December

Teams know how to stop VD though unfortunately... We need someone to step up to the plate on 3rd downs. We really didn't have a deep threat last year either. Our offense was more explosive on running plays and broken plays. I'm really hoping AJ Jenkins can do this in a big way - big plays - And Anquan should be good for 3rd downs I hope. Sorry, but I have absolutely no faith in a Ricardo Lockette.. Definitely want him to prove me wrong.

I have high hopes for Patton though!!

I have a strong feeling Lockette is going to be big for us. He's got the strength, size, aggression and speed to be absolutely a nightmare to deal with. If we continue to invest in his mental game and hands, we could be seeing something this year, no doubt. Having guys like VD, McDonald, Boldin and now Lockette to handle the physical press coverage allowed up in Seattle is the only real way to combat. Crabtree would have been nice but he's still not the best off the LOS in press (obviously). I look forward to seeing him develop this pre season and will really be spot-lighting him esp. in press.

I wish him the best, but honestly... we've heard nothing from him except his friendship with Kaep. Seems like every other receiver got a couple blurbs in the non padded practices and Lockette faded into the background. Im still rooting for him, but he's gonna need more than friendship to make this roster.

Who I also rooted for to make it, I think Osgood may take his spot though

They have similar size, but I think Lockette is faster and quicker than Maxwell was. Lockette is a legitimate Olympic caliber sprinter. And, that year was Alex Smith's first year. He didn't have rapport with anyone. Lockette has the advantage of having rapport with the QB right off the bat. We'll see.

As far as Osgood is concerned, he's been around for 11 years and he's probably at about 4.7 in the 40. They already have a world-class possession receiver who is slow - Boldin.

Glad you brought up Osgood as well. Don't count this clever vet off just yet. His "immediate" experience could prove to be more valuable than a guy like Lockette who is going to need more time to develop in our offense.

I just don't understand how Osgood fits in, but it won't be the first time I haven't understood what they're doing. Boldin is the "slower" possession guy AND the crafty veteran with massive experience. If you want a huge block-them-out-of-the-catch receiver, there's McDonald. Hey, if he fits, he fits, but I just don't see it right now.

Cant go wrong with a 6'5 WR that is an all pro special teamer. IMO Harbaalke saw just how critical it is to have the top special teams unit in the league. Last year it killed us a couple times not having a guy like Castanzo that is just way ahead of other special teamers.

Except Osgood isn't much of a receiver. He's a ST guy who needs a listed position, like the way Jennings likes to consider himself a TE.

Am I not mistaken that Lockette's weight is at 230 now?

Was Maxwell the one that had injury issues also?

As a Seattle fan, I'll be very interested in seeing how the Rocket pans out for you.

I had very high hopes for him when he was up here for a couple years. It seemed like he was on his way up in 2011 and had a couple of clutch long receptions toward the end of the season.

He had a fantastic offseason in 2012, then when it came time to perform in the preseason of last year he was awful.

The rap on him here was that he is a physically gifted guy, crazy fast, fantastic player in shorts, but was an awful route runner, questionable hands, and could not take the next step with the pads on when it counted.

He's a very easy guy to root for though........if he wasn't a 49er!
