There's just no way Peyton can command a huge deal until he PROVES he can play. He's going to get cut long before the 2013 fiscal year starts for the NFL and he'll probably sign before then too just to be getting familiar with new personell and staff to continue rehab.

Id guess the gap between what Alex gets paid this year and what Manning gets paid this year (if he plays at all) is less than 5 million. We can still sign the majority of our FA IMO. This is not Peyton manning potentially highest paid player in the league anymore. This is Manning proving he can still play, He's going to HAVE to do a short term incentive laden deal in order to be anywhere with this scary sounding injury

That's an interesting point. Adam Schefter mentioned Arizona as a team that could make a play for Peyton. Hopefully this takes them out of the running.

You didnt really just compare signing a 55 year old retired QB to signing a player who is 20 years younger did you?

I think we all know this isn't going to happen, but hypothetically what would we do offensive system wise? Have Manning adapt to the WCO which I believe Indy did not run, or make our players learn the system Manning was in and hope it all works out?

Peyton Manning is closer to present day Joe Montana than he is to present day Drew Brees. Peyton Manning was a great QB.

They'd keep the same system and ask Manning to learn something new. Otherwise, they'd have to have the entire team learn a new offense...and than have to re-learn the old offense 12 months later. Too much transition for a lone desperation shot at a championship.

IF he can play again, he'll still be a great QB. Even if he returns at less than 100% he'll still be a top 5-7 QB.

Not to mention, if the Niners played the Tards with Manning at the helm, let's see how long he would last before he meets Aldon Smith. He would barely be able to get set in the pocket with the Tards' line.

That's what I was thinking. Manning is a pro's pro, but add "learning a new system" to the drawbacks of bringing in an aging HOF'er with a fused neck who for the rest of his career (if it continues) would be the player who's career is most likely to end on the next play.
