Logan Mankins done with Patriots?

Baas is going to cost a little bit to tie up, and Rachal is under contract. I could see them drafting a OG with 3rd/4th round pick, but I doubt Mankins comes here.

I would rather spend that money on Nmandi, so we can target a DE with the #7 pick...

If we fail to land the #1 free agent CB on the market I would gladly invest more in the OL.

but i agree we need the #1 cb and that's namdi. spend the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
With Mankins on one side of the center, and Iupati on the other, we'd be set at guard for the next 4 years at least.

Make it happen, FO!

I'd give Mankins a 5 yr deal 40 mil deal, 17 mil gaurantee.

I'm not in favor of this move. I'd like to see what we can do with a QB that gets rid of the ball faster and some better coaching. However, solidifying the interior of our line for the next 5 or more years could do wonders for our offense from the standpoint of our run game, and more specifically our passing game. Our QB would have time to throw and receivers would have even more time to get open (you can't cover a receiver forever). Even you know who would look good behind this line.

so are you against it or in favor of it? JK JK...
but if we did land him it would def upgrade our line.

lol..I know I made EVERY argument as to why we should sign him, but ultimately against I'm it because I'd like to see us develop our o-line. We've had so many O-line draft picks over the years, that laws of statistics tells us that somewhere in the bunch we should draft SOMEONE that is above average.

LT, RT and LG appear to be set. We need to upgrade RG and re-load at OC. I have little faith in Chilo's ability to excel and I don't think Heitmann is part of the long term plans here. I think our options are:

A) Re-sign Baas and hope for the best with Baas and Chilo and maybe have Heitmann take-over at RG or move Heitmann and Baas back to their orginal positions. This is the economical option, but also very short term.

B) Re-sign Baas and sign Mankins and have Heitmann push Baas at OC and Rachal back-up Mankins at RG.

C) Sign Mankins and draft a promising young center to play behind Heitmann or Baas. I know Danny Watkins of Baylor played OT in college and he's projected as an NFL OG, but I see some ability to play center as well. He's gonna go early though.

A QB has to have receivers that can get open quicker and read defenses accurately in order to throw the ball faster. Also, the OL must create throwing lanes on rhythm to avoid batted balls.

Mankins at RG would do a lot to help the passing game, especially the quick, timing routes. That is something the Pats use a lot and Mankins is very good at those blocking schemes.

it was a joke

I dont know why? Many players with much less raw talent have gone on to do well after leaving the Niner. Kyle Koiser comes to mind.

Where's the "raw talent" that Chilo possesses? He's pretty big and he's strong. Sounds like any O-Lineman to me.

i dont think rachal will be tht good hes to lazy and is slow his run block is above average maybe even one of the leagues best among guards but his pass blocking skills may as well be the worst he needs help on the simplist assignments

If you actually watch the guy on a run play you'll notice he fails more than half the time. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and over-credit him. In the very beginning, it looked like he was going to be a good run blocker, but that fizzled out. There's a reason you see a big pile of linemen (both offensive and defensive) on the ground when Gore runs it up the gut - but Chilo is just standing next to the pile.
Mankins is a LG doubt he would want to move over, I would rather have Harvey Dahl
Your goal should not be to get a QB that gets rid of the ball faster. Instead, you should want a line that allows the QB to hold the ball longer. That is when the receivers have more time to get further downfield and/or more time to work themselves open. When I watched Brady and Rodgers this year, I was struck how much time both QBs usually had to pass, and how open downfield their receivers were when they finally threw.

If you continue to have an underperforming line and a QB who gets rid of the ball quickly, then soon you would have some of our dear fans labeling him "Captain Checkdown."
