I'm not in favor of this move. I'd like to see what we can do with a QB that gets rid of the ball faster and some better coaching. However, solidifying the interior of our line for the next 5 or more years could do wonders for our offense from the standpoint of our run game, and more specifically our passing game. Our QB would have time to throw and receivers would have even more time to get open (you can't cover a receiver forever). Even you know who would look good behind this line.

so are you against it or in favor of it? JK JK...
but if we did land him it would def upgrade our line.

lol..I know I made EVERY argument as to why we should sign him, but ultimately against I'm it because I'd like to see us develop our o-line. We've had so many O-line draft picks over the years, that laws of statistics tells us that somewhere in the bunch we should draft SOMEONE that is above average.

LT, RT and LG appear to be set. We need to upgrade RG and re-load at OC. I have little faith in Chilo's ability to excel and I don't think Heitmann is part of the long term plans here. I think our options are:

A) Re-sign Baas and hope for the best with Baas and Chilo and maybe have Heitmann take-over at RG or move Heitmann and Baas back to their orginal positions. This is the economical option, but also very short term.

B) Re-sign Baas and sign Mankins and have Heitmann push Baas at OC and Rachal back-up Mankins at RG.

C) Sign Mankins and draft a promising young center to play behind Heitmann or Baas. I know Danny Watkins of Baylor played OT in college and he's projected as an NFL OG, but I see some ability to play center as well. He's gonna go early though.

It's a great idea to sign him and I made every argument for us to do it, but looking at all of the early draft picks we've invested in the O-Line in the last decade- Davis Baas, Adam Snyder, Joe Staley, Chilo Rachal, Mike Lupati, Anthony Davis, not too mention other lower round picks, and guys who were here before Nolan, FA signings, etc, we should have found 5 decent starters. I have a hard time accepting the idea that we have not been able to do that. It makes me wonder what we can do with some better coaching and a better QB under center. However it does make the most sense to talk to him, over any other FA agent considering he is the best at his position (All-Pro), relativel young (going into his 6th season), is unhappy with his current team, AND from the area.
HIM OR ASS! FOR THE WIN

I'm not sure i want to play around with mike... I'm sure he be a stud to run behind on the right side, but he have to redo his footwork. And him and davis on the same side??? Is that really what we want to do. I mean staley, logan, Baas/Heitmann, Mike, Davis would be a sick oline... I don't care who you have a qb, us vd to chip the guy at the line on davis side and we have all day to throw that ball...

Mankins likely to get the franchise tag again

The day began waiting for Patriots guard Logan Mankins to receive the franchise tag. And we are still waiting.

I’m told the three-time Pro Bowl will receive the franchise tag, as expected.

It just won’t be today. It may be tomorrow, but it certainly will be within this 14-day period. My view was that the longer it takes, the more likely it is that the two sides could strike a deal. But now that I’ve learned it is definitely coming anyway, I guess the negotiating window extends for a while.

They could let him play one year for roughly $10.51 million and watch him walk, trade him, or sign him to a long-term deal. Stay tuned…
