We have many more players of our own to sign 1st thats why Lawson probably will be playing elsewhere in 2011 and Merriman whould cost alot more$$$ so if we can't sign Lawson I can't believe we'll make a push for Merriman.

yeah Merriman is gonna get more money than Lawson.
We have VD to sign and depending on how they play this year we will have Alex Smith and Dashon Goldson to sign as well

easy on the caps lock and i wouldnt do this trade merrimen only got his sacks thanks to his steroids his production has dropped tremendously after that and we would have to pay more for merrimen and he isnt worth the extra money for the upgrade we are getting if it were for haralson that would be a different story

Please tell me why the Chargers want to do that? When healthy Merriman has proven to be one of the top players in the league. And he's still healing. When has Lawson proven he is a top player in the league?

Chargers won't make that deal because they won't think they are getting enough in return.
The 49ers SHOULDN'T make that deal for two reasons:
1. No one knows for sure if Merriman is healthy. Without the juice, and fully healthy, what can he do? We really haven't seen that Shawn Merriman yet.
2. Lawson can still be an effective player for the 49ers. He covers well and seals the edge very well on run plays. He isn't the pass rusher they hoped for but that is McCloughan's fault, not Manny's. Lawson may well be a better fit for the 49ers if the Brooks is healthy and rushing the passer like he did in situations last year.

this
we will let Lawson walk and either promote Brooks to his spot next year or we'll spend a 1st on an OLB....I want to see VD, Goldston, Franklin extended before him.

This. People need to let go of thinking of Lawson as a pass rusher. We have found that out years ago. His value is outside containment and coverage. Good thing for him he was able to thrive on these skill sets or he would have been a bust. It may have not been what was intended when he was drafted, but his value is in areas that do not show up on the stat sheet. We are better with him in, period.
As far as post juice merriman, bleh....
Ask little ass mjd how fierce he really is.
