Gaither could be available for less than first round pick

#49 would get us in the door, it doesn't necessarily mean Gaither could be had for that much. IMO, its probably gonna take a 2nd and 3rd or 4th or a player to get him. Saying a 2nd round pick is what it'll take to get Gaither only adds more suitors to the trade, in actuality it will go to the highest bidder....C'mon guys.

I'd consider a 2nd and 4th. We'd still get Gaither and three picks in the first three rounds.

Oh no your right, how could you not do it, cause no doubt I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. I was just trying to put my explanation in the best reply I seen fit.

You're sure the Ravens will trade one of their starting tackles, one that YOU seem to think is an excellent player, for the 49th pick in the draft? How does that make any sense? Heard someone say it on a message board?

Because they have a better player at the position and want to get something for him rather than pay the man what he's worth.

The Skins just got a borderline HoF qb from a division rival for not much more than a 2nd.

No, because they want to get rid of a 'questionable' player while they can for a high draft pick/package before his condition becomes exposed in 2011 (which at that point he won't probably be worth as much).

Smart teams do this s**t all the time, they know a player will either be a problem/on the decline (or they don't want to overpay a player with future problems/liability issues) within the next 2 years so they bank on him, and trade out to the most desperate/naive front-office.

If this guy was worth as much as everybody thinks he'd be gone by now. -The only team going after him will be a desperate franchise on day 2 of the draft.

That usually means you have the choice yeah? Who cares... If there are any major issues Sgt. Singletary will lay down the law

For most players yes... but too bad it hasn't worked on Chilo Rachel much.

Gathier is arguably better than Oher at LT. Anyways every team is always trying to improve their OL, if it was so easy to acquire someone that is so good don't you think that someone would have done it already? The answer is either he's not as good as you say or he's not going to be so easy to acquire via trade as you say...

Players who are still good are let go or traded often. Remember Larry Allen, Fred Dean, Gary Johnson, Marshall Faulk, Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, Joe Montana, Steve Young, Ray Brown, Wendell Tyler, Matt Millen, Ken Norton, Justin Smith, Takeo Spikes, Joe Nedney, etc.

How do you account for the relatively tepid response to Gaither's restricted free agency?

Are there downsides that we're not seeing clearly, or is this simply a case of the Ravens having a wealth of talent on the offensive line and being willing to trade for other options?

It is my understanding that Michael Oher is their future LT, which is the position Gaither currently occupies. They probably don't feel the need to have 2 quality LTs when they can send one off for a nice return.

Obviously, I haven't read the whole thread and I'm sure this has been covered already, but oh well. LOL.

It hasn't been. Everyone just automatically assumes that Oher is the LT of the future, but Gathier was the MUCH better LT last year and will probably be this year. Oher played very well, especially for a rookie, but there is no sign that they would rather have Oher at LT.
Sign Gaither and trade one first round pick for marshall!!!!!!!!!Superbowl

No sign you say?

Wha?! Ummm.....TRADING BLOCK!
f**k Gaither. I wouldln't spend more than a 3rd on him. Even then, I wouldn't really be happy about it.

He's not at all as good as this board makes him out to be. Not even close.
kevin Lynch has been reporting that the red flag with Gaither is his commitment to and/or passion for the game, which makes sense if he did miss the first week of voluntary workouts.

Where did you find this trading block? In a cave in Egypt? I have yet to see it.

Just because a bunch of yahoos on the internet say he's on some sort of trading block doesn't mean s**t. He's a restricted free agent that wants to get paid and the Ravens would like to have him back or be well compensated for losing him.
if they could get him with the 2nd rounder, I would do this in an instant.
I would definitly do it for a 2nd, but not if it cost and additional 4th. That 4th could be our next Cody Wallace, Jay Moore or M.Robinson. No way, they would be asking way too much.....
