Nope. I am sure not. I am stating that this method of testing unknown QB's for a better ceiling identification will lend itself to a shorter amount of time to get your guy.

As opposed to the 49ers who take the very longest route. Because the only possible franchise QB the Niners ever entertained was Alex Smith. At least Carroll is showing that he is going to test out decent options in a short amount of time.

Are you telling me that you can not comprehend how a guy who has been a backup for a couple of years is not EASIER to project than a NCAA prospect???

I wasn't clear. Here's my point. Whitehurst has been in the NFL for years and has never even been able to beat out Billy Volek. Billy Volek for crying out loud! For me I would be much happier taking a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round this year and have a guy with potential to be something.

Moving back 20 spots in the 2nd round and a 3rd round pick in 2011, for a #3 QB and a guy who never threw a pass? Come on. That's like someone giving up all that for Ken Dorsey a few years ago, except Dorsey actually did play and had a decent game or two. Seattle is dumb, this trade was dumb.

But it is not an unheard idea that the NFL would get better QB play with a QB developmental league or something like that, which this basically is. Carroll has decided to call up a QB from the minors if you will, as opposed to drafting a QB which has a higher rate of never starting and never resigning than the opposite.

Further. If the system in San Diego is close to what Carroll wants to implement, even more reason to get Whitehurst.

The point about not beating Volek is a valid one. Though, from what I hear from SD fans, he was projecting to definitely be the #2 this pre season.

Here's the thing, had the 49ers done this deal. Would you be happy with it? A QB you may have heard about like 4 years ago when he was drafted and done nothing since?

I mean Houston got to see Matt Schaub play some before they decided to trade for him. I'm not saying it's impossible for Whitehurst to be a decent starter. All i know is if the 49ers did this trade. I would be pissed.

Listen, I just don't think you are fully appreciating how little drafted QB's are contributing to their teams. You, and most Niner fans, like to focus on the success stories. But truth be told, most drafted QB's don't help the team that drafts them.

Care to list the last QB's the Niners have drafted and point out how they helped the Niners?

Niners will be ready to get a couple of those red zone INTs from any of their QBs.

This move reminds me when the Dolphins traded a 2nd round pick for AJ Feeley. Based on the fact he looked decent stepping in for McNabb on occasion.

Pete Carol is hoping Whitehurst turns into the next Matt Schaub. A franchise QB sitting on the bench.

Only problem is Whitehurst has never taken a regular season. Carol and the Seahawks front office must be high rollers at Las Vegas.

I am glad Losman looks better and is inline for the #2. I felt he got a raw deal in Buffalo, but he has made the strides to improve. He has the tools to be good. Also, it means the Seahawks way overpaid for Whitehurst which is good. I watched him play a lot in college and felt he was overrated.

When you think about it this is alot cheaper investment then drafting a QB and alot less risky too. 10 mil and 2 3rd rounders or 60 mil and a top pick.

If Whitehurst doesn't pan out Seattle can easily move on whenever they want to without blinking an eye. The same can not be said if you draft a QB and he busts. You're stuck with that guy until he burns every bridge in the city.
