He really wasn't I seen almost every skins game. He was hurt most of the time. and when he wasn't hurt he was either pretending to be hurt or just lazy. Big Al would play 2 plays then have to come off the field to catch his breath. Carter and Orakpo did most of there damage when Haynesworth was on the sideline. the game when both of them and 3 sacks Haynesworth didn't even play. Still not sure he can be an OLB in a 3-4 though so i wouldn't sign him to the Niners for that reason.

Carter was the last guy to record double digit sacks for the Niners. Singletary coached him, maybe he'd have him come in for an interview.

He could be an edge rusher when we use some nickel and dime packages, thats is he is willing to accept a lesser role, but as far as OLB, most of that playing time should be split between Haralson & Brooks ..but I'm all for adding talent at OLB, as long as we dont lose Brooks or Haralson, it would be nice to have a selection of pass rushers next season

Said Nolan....
Quote:
Andre Carter may believe that he is experiencing deja vu. When Carter came to Washington in 2006, he made his feelings pretty clear. He had just left San Francisco, which had switched to a 3-4 defense in his final season there and moved him from defensive end to linebacker. When he signed with the Redskins and was introduced in Washington, he said he was "playing out of position" as a linebacker. "When the 49ers announced they were changing to a 3-4, I'm like, 'Oh, great,'" Carter said at the time, apparently with more than a hint of sarcasm. "But I did it. I feel that's a testament to my character. I made some plays [at linebacker], but it took me out of some plays as far as getting to the quarterback."
And that is why Nolan is still coaching in the NFL. He knows the 3-4 defense.

Guys, I don't know where all this nostalgic crap is coming from, but Carter isn't coming here, nor should he. Carter the DE was not an impact player in San Fran. His stats looked ok here, but he wasn't an impact player. No one schemed on how to block him or protect their offense from him. As an OLB, he just wasn't any good. He did ok-to-good as a DE in Washington and good for him, but he's not coming back here and we shouldn't havethe slightest interest in him.
He didn't fit as a 3/4 OLB. Carter himself said so. When he left San Fran for DC, he characterized his time in the 3/4 as "playing out of position" and that he'd much rather play in a 4/3. Considering that there will be several 4/3 teams looking for a DE, he'll have lots of options,....and none will include the 49ers.

I agree that he's more suited to play DE in a 4-3 but I just read on rotoworld that he's too small now to play DE in a 4-3. I don't know...
He had a great year last year but you have to wonder how much was that due to the double teaming of Haynesworth and the blitzing of Orakpo?

He is not too small to be a situational pass rusher and he could also beef up a little if need be.
