Fitz and Brooks are talking about McNabb...

NO although we would be a better team, i wanna see what smith can do, and going to the playoffs with Smith would be MUCH MUCH sweeter than going with McNabb. Especially after all these s**tty years we've gone through

Hell yes I would take Mcnabb. Different offensive system or not. Anyone who thinks Alex Smith can lead this team further than Mcnabb is smoking rocks.

He wouldn't be MUCH better than Smith IMO.

I pray that you don't take this personally, because I don't mean it that way at all because I know you're a pretty sharp guy...but that last sentence (as a concept) is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever read on this site.

I don't!

McNabb is just as inaccurate as Smith is. IMO the only thing McNabb would bring over Smith is better pocket presence. I'm sure you'd add leadership. And while I think the team would easily take to him better than smith. I don't see him as a leader.

Would he be better than Smith. Almost assuredly so! but not MUCH better.

FWIW I think we need Smith replaced ASAP. He (now) like McNabb (now) will only do enough to HELP you get to the playoffs. Neither will win you anything.
At this point in time McNabb is by far the better quarterback but he is a terrible fit in San Francisco. If we did some how get him I'll jump on that bandwagon but personally, I don't see it happening.
There is NO doubt that McNabb would be a huge upgrade for the Niners. I am tired of watching mediocrity at the QB position and would welcome someone with McNabb's talents. Sure, he isnt 25 anymore but he still has productive years left in my opinion and would instantly make the Niners a better team.

I would make every attempt to deal a 2nd round pick this year and a 3rd next year rather than a first rounder. I am very hopeful that we can land Spiller (or even better Haden) and a RT in the first. However, I would not be upset if we traded the second first rounder for McNabb.

Mcnabb has always played with superior talent & still has failed to deliver a Super Bowl victory.

For that reason I say pass, philly wouldn't be shopping him if they felt confident he could win in the playoffs.

I dont really care if the Niners go after him or not, but I dont think that's really a fair argument. He also took some teams to Championship games with a bunch of scrubs on offense.

I will say that IF the Niners were to make that trade, Vernon Davis deep would be a pretty thing for the next few years (if the O-line could block)
we wont get him
Jed York has trust in smith and will make sure he starts
