He's a product of his defense, and system. How many times do you see McNabb putting 80+ yard drives together? Most of his TD's have always come from big plays, or the defense creating turn overs and giving him a short field. I don't buy into the McNabb hysteria; there are so many other QB's I rather have...Rivers, Rodgers, Ryan, Brady, Palmer, Peyton, Brees, Schuab, Stafford. And, he doesn't put up big numbers in loses either, he tends to Favre some throws when they matter.

ok....I love McNabb. The guy is a gamer. He's had a great career and nobody can deny he has talent. However, we would be making a HUGE mistake to give a 1st round draft pick for him. He's 33 years old for fu*k sake! He'd have to learn a completely different offense in one off-season. which is something the guy hasn't had to do since he was a rookie. for the first time in over 7 years we're going into the next season with a quarterback who has 1 year of the offense under his belt. do we really want to make it 8 years in a row having to bring our QB up to speed with a new offense??? I think not. If this was an option 5 years ago, I would be all over it. but its way to late in McNabb's career to give up a 1st round pick..

He'd have Crabtree to throw to. I also think he could teach Davis a lot. If the shot is there pull the trigger. People said Warner was old before he came ressurected AZ. McNabb is an ALL pro and he brings instant credibility to a disenchanted franchise.

No. He's a west coast qb, and we're a digit offense. It's a crapshoot, and not worth a first day pick.

Isn't it more of a crapshoot to stick with Alex Smith and hope he figures things out enough to do something he's never done (lead his team to a winning record and playoff spot)?
Since that too is a gamble, I'd bet on McNabb being able to make the transition (or the 49ers s**t-canning Raye, hiring a new OC and going back to the WCO) and leading this team to the playoffs rather than putting my money on Smith. IMO, the odds favor McNabb in this scenario.
As for a 1st round pick, just look at the history of 16th/17th round picks the last 15-20 years, and you'll see that there's only a handful of players that really made an impact worthy of that high of a selection (most are names like Gosder Cherilus, Justin Harrell, Jarvis Moss, Bobby Carpenter, Bryant Johnson, William Greene, Philip Buchanon, etc.). And compared to the production of a pro-bowl player at the most important position on the team (QB), it's not even close.

Joe won his 4th Super Bowl ring at the age of 33, and even played the next year (1990) at both a pro-bowl and all-pro level, at the age of 34...and at that age, he was putting up some of the best passing numbers of his career. He went on to have a few more pretty good years at KC as well, so being 33 doesn't mean a thing.
I would be more than happy to squeeze two years like that (production-wise) out of McNabb.

Of course he does.
Our oline is the damn problem, not the qb's.
We may not have Manning type qb's, but those come once an era.

eagles> 49ers talent wise on offense
if he cant not only win a superbowl but go past the first round in philly what makes u think he can in san fran not too mention that he is on the down side of his career best option is to let alex play for another year if he doesnt get to the playoffs label him as a bust but i dont think its fair to give up on alex he hasnt gotten much of a chance that all succesfull qbs get
good (or decent) o line ( we have THE WORST o line in league how many good qbs have done good with the worst o line?)
weapons(just got some this year)
same OC for at least 2 years (how many decent or good qbs have been sucessfull with a different OC every year?)

A couple of days ago, u posted that Alex was our future, and that he deserves another chance. Now you r willing to bring another QB???? whats up with that???
Anyways....
They tryed to get Warner last year, i dont see a reason why they wouldnt try to get him from eagles.
