CRAP! It doesn't surprise me though. Why would the Panthers let him walk for nothing? I definitely do not want to see the Niners give up 1st round pick(s) for him. They need those picks to improve the Oline, etc.
I would have loved to see him in the red and gold though.

A switch to the 4-3 is unlikely imo. Our DC is a 3-4 guy.

so who was third in the NFL in sacks this year? oh thats right the 49ers. Why drop big bucks on a veteran to solve a "problem" instead of letting the young guys continue developing.

when you get a player of his caliber it forces teams to shceme for him. if we have him and justing smith forcing double teams that will then force teams to keep their TE and/or RB to block. if we rush 4. and then when we do decide to blitz it will be devastating, we would have 1 or 2 free rushers.

Plus, Peppers has said he prefers playing in a 34 scheme.

We still need a 100% legit answer at pass-rusher, and putting this guy in a pass-rusher role with the line we're building (out of even a 3-4) would turn us into a 'doomsday' playoffs-defense (Just the presence of Peppers will help the entire line become fluid in the long-run).

What I wanna know is, how they afford to franchise Peppers when their cap space is only 4.9 million or so??

2 firsts for a 30 year old DE? You are on your own

I agree, the 9ers have a good amount of cap space and will have enough left after saving for or giving out extensions to Frankin/Willis/Davis/Gore/Brooks to sign a couple FAs and Peppers should be a priority along with any top tier OL if any that are out there.
