Do we fix the oline in the draft or free agency

Get a high priced LG or RT in FA, then spend a first on Trent Williams or Bulaga or Okung(probably the panthers first if Berry isn't there), then you go out and use a 3rd, 5th, etc. on OL. Then you see who sticks in TC and minicamps. I'm freaking sick of playing musical RT and musical RG. I think Baas sucks, Rachal is iffy, and Snyder's a back up swing tackle playing RT. Give the QB the best protection money can buy.
I say both FA & the draft.

Draft imo. I just get the feeling all the big-name OL FA's will be re-signed. McNeill, Evans, Mankins, Colledge, etc.

Im not completely positive that the interior O-linemen will automatically be resigned due to the sizeable contracts they are receiving these days. That being said and given the state of our running game at the moment, I think McCloughan needs to change his stance regarding paying these guys top dollar.

In fact, I think we should go after both of the top OGs available - Logan Mankins and Jahri Evans... Put these guys at LG and RG respectively then get our RT through the draft, and we have something.

Draft. We've tried FA and that brought us Glassman, Marvel Smith, Sims etc. Maybe we shouldn't have let some of our FA linemen go, e.g. Justin Smiley.

Bingo that's why it will be the draft b/c smart teams don't let there lineman get away and when they do they suffer for it. Draft them young and great and pay them for years is the way to go.

I think history has shown you can acquire good guards through FA, but I can't recall a stud OT changing teams through FA in recent memory.

Didn't we have a 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders and a 3rd rounder in the starting lineup in Week 1? Personally I'd like to see us pick up a starter or 2 in FA and draft for depth. We are getting very close to being a consistent play off team and that transition will be made for sure next year if we can sort the O-LIne and add a playmaker or 2 on D.

Jason Peters to the Eagles in this off season would be the last time a stud OT moved in FA BTW.

guard in FA, and a RT in the draft
We need to fix it in the front office. McClown's free agents -- JJ, Marvel, Pashos, Sims didn't work. Nor Wallace, Snyder, Baas in the draft.

Jason Peters was traded, which is really the only way to acquire a stud OT from another team, because no team is stupid enough to let one walk.

Fixed.

Trent Williams or Anthony Davis
Deuce Lutui
Mike Johnson or Mitch Petrus in the 3rd or 4th

I'd prefer a Ryan Clady esque pick and move Staley back to the right side. Unfortunately this tackle class looks kinda mediocre and we're going to have to settle at picking a RT.

Trent Williams or Charles Brown then?? I'd actually keep Staley at LT, he hasn't been bad at all this year.

You're right, I hadn't read the previous guy's post properly.
I would like to see this team fill their holes more via the draft than FA. With that said I believe this team needs 4 players before it can contend seriously. 2 or 3 OL, a passrusher and a S. We have 2 first round picks I would just like to see us use those picks on our need positions and be agressive in FA and do what it takes to sign a couple impact players at the above positions as well.

Yes it would. That is the one weakness on this team IMO.
Sign a FA to a 3 year deal and draft one. Let them fight over it

Both, but we need proven vets. Rookies can be easily be BUST!

Quality Vets are rarely available in FA. If they are, then it's likely they are no longer a quality OLinemen.

Franchises rarely let quality Oline get away, unless of course you are the Niners and take the foolish stance that guards are easily replaced in the draft, then spend the next 3 years trying to replace that G.
no, we have the best O-Line out there
Sign a vet (or two) for depth in FA and draft a tackle in the 1st.
