My wish for the 2010 off season

I'm not sure we drafted Balmer to be our NT...he's slimmed down, and weighs @ 15 lbs less than he did last year (reportedly @ 305 now). He could be a monster DE...with his height and wingspan, he could be a real force there. I'm really anxious to see him emerge this season. That's why I want a big, nasty NT next year. Just imagine...KB at LDE, big nasty at NT (Cody?), J. Smith at RDE. That has the sound of a powerful, havoc-wreaking DL.

A safety like Berry would be great too.

we drafted kentwan balmer to play NT . so that be kinda a waste of a first round pick.

i say we sign a free agent pass rusher wheather its peppers suggs etc, some dominant one since we got so much cap space.

with our 2 first round picks, taylor mays, and O line possibly or d line can do alot with those 2 picks.

Most likely need to use one or both of those picks ie into a trade (unless Alex Smith actually starts playing like the number 1 overall pick) on one of the two Big 12 QB's Bradford or McCoy.

We did not draft Balmer to play NT.......

His dimensions nowhere near fit the typical NT.

Balmer was BPA at our position in that draft and was more likely picked up to play end or DT. He is much too tall to play NT imo.

Balmer measures in at half an inch taller than Shaun Rogers, Kris Jenkins & Jay Ratliff, so as far as being too tall that is false. Currently he does play too tall to be an effective NT but if he can learn to play with a lower pad level he could possibly play NT.

As for what he was drafted to be :

Quote:
5:34 p.m.: Coach Mike Nolan just met the media after the 49ers' two first-day picks. He said both Balmer and Rachal are both players who will impact the roster. "We are drafting for need, but we need the best players," Nolan said.

The 49ers never thought about moving back at No. 29 because Balmer was considered so good at that spot. Nolan confirmed that Merling and Lofton were players the club would have taken with that pick if Balmer had not been chosen.

Balmer can play the nose or left defensive end. One thing about Balmer is that he plays almost every snap in the course of a game. He said he was surprised that there were questions about Balmer's work ethic.

When asked if Balmer can help the team's pass rush, Nolan said, "I hope so." He explained that if an offense is forced to devote two blockers to one defensive lineman, that opens things up in one-on-one situations for others.

As far a 2010 wish list, it's kind of silly to have one right now seeing as we will have to wait and see how things go before truly knowing which areas on the team will be weakest and in most need of an upgrade. So my wish is that we upgrade the weakest areas on this team after seeing them playout the 2009-2010 season.
lets face it. We have to man up and draft another QB there is simply no way around it. And then we got to wait about 3 years. Unless another BreesCutler situation arises which is doubtful, and this franchise has never had the balls for anything like that anyway.

New OC Jimmy Raye will make a big contribution this year. He will run a balanced offense, but will strike deep when the opportunity shows.

And if so after his much success, he stays for 5 more yrs to continue his much needed continuity

And a pass rush that gives opposing qbs nightmares. That aint to much to ask for is it? Lol

Hopefully Crabtree and Morgan become the starting duo the niners envision. It make me sick that presently Zeilger, our supposed 7th best receiver has equal talent to our top WR's.

I am so fricking tired of qb competitions, which basically means you have no qb. Please, oh please let one of them take us to the promised land, (play offs) and whoever that is, that is our qb for 2010.

That is, all I want.

Will get to the playoffs this year, count on it.
new cba and no strike
I think we will again struggle getting rush pressure without a dominant NT. The blueprint for next year's targets should become very clear with Singletary as HC. I suspect we will aim for these positions with our first 4 picks...

NT - wouldn't mind seeing Cody in the 1st or Boo Williams from WF in the 2nd
OLB - good options in Selvie/Kindle/Graham/Hardy if Manny or Parys appear average
RT - No guarantees that we will see remarkable starting potential in Snyder or Boone
CB - Bly is temporary... still questions on Brown and Spencer

for us to make it to the sb and win. The qb and wr positions will be settled during the course of the year, so the only positions we will really need a BIG upgrade will be 1 DE position and the NT position. I think the rookie from LSU Francois will be the eventual starter at the other end to Justin Smith.

We are set in our secondary, lb cors, rb, fb, wr's te's and even maybe OL now if smith stays healthy

Do you not like balmer. All reports says he's looking great and has really grown and is working hard ever day to get better. Saying he's very athletic for a big man, last guy that size and quickness was Bryant Young at Left End.
wasnt sure what the term "promise land" was before this thread.

thank you
my wish is a big 3-4 NT like cody i dont care about his fitness im pretty sure singeltary can fix that and if not thats what franklin and soap are for also a ball hawk if we get both of these we will be a top D team

Defense wins championships
my wish is that we are picking 32nd in the draft

Knowing Nick Saban, he will have Cody trimmed down to 345-350 and in good condition by the time the combine rolls around. He will still get knocked for conditioning by scouts, as all huge DTs do, but still...

Cody reminds of Ted Washington part deux. His conditioning is a rightful knock, the kid begins to disappear in the 2nd half of most games and is strictly a 2 down player. He will be great for a 2 gap scheme however he is not the prospect Raji was (a player with 3 down potential who can play both 1 gap and 2 gap and can play the Nose or 5 technique).
