There were several layers to all of this. The Simpson pick was made with the desire to have next year's pick available to trade for a high end player. If they used that pick for say, a receiver like Makai Lemon, then they would probably be looking at next year's draft for Stafford's eventual replacement. Odds are the best one's available would be taken by the time it gets to their turn.

Simpson is a guy they had their eyes on early last season. In fact, its been said Les Snead told his father if he declares for the draft the Rams are considering him with one of their first round picks. Plus, Simpson is generally considered to be better than anyone they could get late in next year's first round. The good ones will be gone.

This trade was years in the making. The Rams wanted Garrett back in 2022. And were persistent in calling the Browns this offseason. They knew by using the pick this year for their eventual starting quarterback that frees up next year's first for the trade. It wasn't until they included Verse that the Browns agreed to it. They initially offered Byron Young who is in the last year of his rookie contract.

We can debate whether or not Simpson's got what it takes. But he will be afforded every opportunity to learn from Stafford and McVay both. Even if it takes a couple years before he can play. Simpson has one thing Aaron Rogers did not when he sat for 3 years. Stafford is gonna mentor him. Brett Favre made it clear it wasn't his job to teach Aaron Rogers.

well, rodgers wasn't too bad even thougn favre was not babysitting him. mentoring a qb is overrated.

i still dont understand the move. they could have added a starting caliber DE and wouldnt have to trade several picks. it is win now for the rams, so why would they be thinking about the future? in the nfl is almost impossible creating a dinasty with the salary cap, only 2 teams have won 3 or more sbs since 2000s and they had to have super hof qbs (and blatant ref help).

rams should have taken the advantage of fullfill their weakest spots while they still have a couple of more years of their current hof and mvp

I'd say they did take advantage. The addressed the weakest unit on the team. The corners. Now they're much better there. They already had a pretty good defensive front and got even better. Offensively, everyone on a top 5 offense returns this year.

The mortgage the future talk will always be there. But the same was said in 2021 when they acquired Stafford, Von Miller and OBJ. Already had Jalen Ramsey which they gave up first round picks for. They had one injury riddled down season in 2022. Then bounced back and made the playoffs 3 straight years. And considered among the best this year.

They've shown they can rebuild quickly and become a force in the NFL. After they supposedly mortgaged the future in 2021. Whatever they're doing other teams should copy that strategy. They've already proven it works.

But I do agree dynasties are hard in the NFL. You want a dynasty you need a Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. Stafford is very good but not quite at that level. I don't see a dynasty with him. But another championship is possible.

The narrative is that Rams got Garrett because the Browns wanted a young pass rusher to build with, Idk why everyone is saying trade for Verse. What would that cost a 1st and a 3rd? In that case why wouldn't we have just outbid the Rams for Garrett?

He can't be very happy about going from an odds-on Super Bowl contender to the bad Browns.

Of course, the Browns have a new coach and a ton of picks in the upcoming high-quality drafts, so things could get better quickly but still...

which means that we should offer Cleveland a 2nd rounder in 2027 and a 3rd in 2028 that can turn into another 2nd IF Verse leads the league in sacks !!

LETS GO LYNCH !!!

I wanted Verse out of FSU, this guy can be the answer on the other side of the END!!
Russell Wilson has retired
