The San Francisco 49ers have a formidable obstacle in the way of their second Super Bowl appearance in four years. They'll travel to Philadelphia this weekend to face the top-seeded Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. In addition to battling a difficult opponent, they'll have to find a way to block out the passionate Philly fanbase. "The environment, it'll be hostile, it'll be loud, as it should be," defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans told reporters before Thursday's practice. "NFC Championship Game. We're in their stadium. We're on their turf. We also understand it's going to be hostile, but you also have to understand you block out all those distractions, and you just go and play the best football you can play for three-and-a-half hours." It remains to be seen how things will play out at the quarterback position for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, but one thing the team doesn't appear to be interested in is adding another front line veteran to the picture who is capable of excelling as a starter if things didn't work out with Brock Purdy or Trey Lance. That includes Jimmy Garoppolo, whose time with the 49ers appears to have come to an end. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the quarterback situation during his year-end press conference Wednesday, which included questions about what kind of quarterback the team might look to add in the weeks ahead. Speculation swirled recently over the possibility of the 49ers being interested in Tom Brady before he announced his retirement earlier on

The 49ers have a number of players slated for free agency and will have to make some tough decisions on who will stay and who will go. Two of those players -- offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey and defensive back Jimmie Ward -- spoke about their futures on Sunday while also reflecting on their time with the 49ers. We'll talk about what McGlinchey and Ward said Sunday, as well as a number of other topics in this version of 49ers Notebook. We'll also dive into what happened to Nick Bosa

49ers mailbag: Will 49ers sign a big-name QB? Who will Ryans take to Houston? Who will replace Ryans? Will Garoppolo return?

There's not much going on with the San Francisco 49ers. Not unless you count these small bits of news: Brock Purdy has a UCL tear and will likely need surgery. If they can repair the tendon, he'll need six months of recovery time (which is August). If they have to replace it (Tommy John surgery), it will be decidedly longer. Trey Lance says he is three to four weeks from being cleared to practice, and that he should be 100% by OTAs (organized team activities). Trent Williams was walking with a crutch on Tuesday (locker cleanout day) and had a walking boot on. But he said it's nothing. DeMeco Ryans was hired to be the next head coach of the Houston Texans. Tom Brady announced his retirement Wednesday morning, so those hoping he
