The San Francisco 49ers open their season on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their first home game comes during Week 3 in a Thursday night contest against the New York Giants.
Like last season, the Niners' bye is during Week 9. They are currently scheduled to participate in five prime-time matchups this year.
San Francisco's opponents combined for a 147-139-2 record last season. The .514 winning percentage by opponents makes the 49ers' schedule the 15th toughest in the NFL, based on last year's results, and the least-toughest among NFC West teams based on the strength of schedule (SOS). That's a significant jump from last season's SOS, which tied for the fifth toughest in the NFL.

This season, "flexible scheduling" for Sunday Night Football may be used up to twice between Weeks 5-10, and in the NFL's discretion during Weeks 11-17; and for Monday Night Football in the NFL's discretion in Weeks 12-17. During the Flex Scheduling Windows, the games initially scheduled for Sunday Night Football (on NBC) and Monday Night Football (on ESPN or ABC) are tentatively scheduled and subject to change. Only Sunday afternoon games (or those listed as TBD) are eligible to be moved to Sunday night or Monday night, in which case the initially scheduled Sunday/Monday night game would be moved to Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon games may also be moved between 1:00 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. ET.
As in prior seasons, for Week 18, the final weekend of the season, the scheduling of the Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and the Sunday night games is not assigned. In Week 18, two games will be played on Saturday (4:30 PM ET and 8:15 PM ET) with the remainder to be played on Sunday afternoon (1:00 PM ET and 4:25 PM ET) and one matchup to be played on Sunday night (8:20 PM ET).
Specific dates, start times, and networks for Week 18 matchups will be determined and announced following the conclusion of Week 17.

Schedule Notes
- The Niners open the regular season on the road (at Pittsburgh) for the fifth time in six seasons and for the third-consecutive year.
- The 49ers open the season on the road against an AFC North opponent for the first time since NFL realignment when the division was formed in 2002.
- San Francisco opens the regular season at the Pittsburgh Steelers for the first time since 1993. It also marks the fifth time the teams have opened the season against one another, including the fourth time at Pittsburgh.
- San Francisco will play on Thanksgiving (at Seattle) for the sixth time in franchise history and for the first time since 2014 when the team faced the Seattle Seahawks.
- The Niners will play on Christmas Day (vs. Baltimore) for just the second time in franchise history and for the first time since 1993 when the team faced the Houston Oilers.
- The 49ers close the regular season at home (Week 18 vs. Los Angeles Rams) for the third time in four seasons and for the second-consecutive year.
- The 49ers face nine teams in 2023 that reached the postseason in 2022 (Baltimore, Cincinnati, Dallas, Jacksonville, Minnesota, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Seattle and Tampa Bay) along with two additional teams who finished .500 or better in 2022 (Pittsburgh and Washington).
- San Francisco will face the three opponents they faced during the 2022 postseason (Seattle, Dallas and Philadelphia).

- San Francisco has won three of the last five matchups between the two clubs, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 36-9 49ers win at NYG (9/27/20).
- It marks the first time in franchise history that the 49ers have their first home game of the season on a Thursday night.

- San Francisco owns the overall series record vs. Arizona, 34-29.
- The 49ers are 19-14 at home vs. the Cardinals and have won eight out of their last 14 home games vs. Arizona.
- The 49ers have won the last two matchups with the Cardinals and are 5-3 in the last eight meetings.
Week 5 – Sunday, October 8 vs. Dallas – 5:20 p.m. PT on NBC
- The all-time series between San Francisco and Dallas is tied, 19-19-1. The 49ers are 10-10 overall at home against the Cowboys.
- The two teams have split their last six meetings.
- After hosting Dallas in the 2022 NFC Divisional Round, the Niners take on the Cowboys at home in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2016-17.

Week 10 – Sunday, November 12 at Jacksonville – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX
- The 49ers are 4-2 overall against the Jaguars, including a 2-2 record on the road.
- San Francisco travels to Jacksonville for the first time since November 21, 2021, when the Niners defeated the Jaguars, 30-10.
- The Niners have won each of the last four meetings between the two teams.
- San Francisco is 3-1 in its last four games coming off of a BYE Week.
