The San Francisco 49ers have been impressed with their rookie quarterback, Brock Purdy. Fans have been impressed with the soon-to-be 23-year-old too. The final overall pick in this year's draft has helped guide the 49ers to wins over the last four games, improving the team's win streak to eight games.

"Brock's played well. Real well," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters via a conference call on Monday. "He was smart with the ball. There was a couple of situations that were tight, where there was an unblocked player, and the play was almost there. And I thought he just did a great job not doing anything stupid in some tough situations, also.

"He's shown than he's willing to let it rip at all times, and there was a couple of times in the game that he had an unblocked guy right to him, and he made a couple of great decisions just to take the sack. So I was real impressed with how Brock played."

Over the last two games, Purdy has been playing through oblique and rib injuries. You certainly couldn't tell by watching the quarterback's performances against the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders. Purdy's Pro Football Focus grades, reaching 79.7 this past Saturday, have improved with each game.

"Just talking to him the last two days, he got out healthy again," Shanahan noted. "I think that should continue healing up, and I think he should be even a little better this week with some more health."

The 49ers might have a tough decision to make during the offseason. Jimmy Garoppolo is scheduled to become a free agent and will likely play elsewhere in 2023. The team also invested a lot of draft capital last year to trade up to acquire Trey Lance, who entered this season as the starter before suffering an ankle injury during Week 2.

What happens next year if the 49ers keep winning and make a deep playoff run with Purdy at the helm of the offense? Is that something the Niners' coach is thinking about?

"No. I don't even know what year it is after this season's over," Shanahan jokingly responded. "I'm trying to think about how to get him ready for Wednesday (practice), man. That's a great question, but honestly, I don't look ahead like that. We've got a number of big games in front of us."

He held onto the football 39 times on the ground, rushing for 144 yards and scoring twice. This marked a significant improvement over his rookie 2022 campaign when he had 22 carries for 13 yards and a score. Purdy further displayed his athleticism during the 49ers' playoff game against the Detroit Lions last season, helping engineer a comeback victory while rushing for 48 yards on five carries. On Tuesday morning, Purdy joined the "Pat McAfee Show," acknowledging that he believes he can contribute more rushing yards if called upon. However, that decision rests with head coach Kyle Shanahan,

Why one analyst is worried for Brock Purdy if 49ers trade Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 18

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, setting a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. This accomplishment is noteworthy, considering the illustrious quarterbacks who have graced the organization's history. A significant portion of those yards came from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who amassed a career-high and team-leading 1,342 receiving yards. Most of his 75 catches originated from passes thrown by Purdy. Amidst significant offseason chatter surrounding the 49ers' star receiver, including several unsubstantiated trade rumors, Aiyuk's future remains uncertain. Former NFL player James Jones, now an analyst, expressed concern for Purdy should Aiyuk's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end. "I

5 reasons why 49ers QB Brock Purdy will be better in 2024

By Marc Adams

The San Francisco 49ers appear to have found their quarterback. It was a bumpy road on the journey to locate him, too. There was the up-and-down tenure of Jimmy Garoppolo, whose relationship with Head Coach Kyle Shanahan seemed dysfunctional, at times. Then there was the short-lived Trey Lance experiment. Garoppolo and Lance are no longer being with the team, and one major reason is the emergence of Brock Purdy as the team's QB. Purdy finished his second season with a trip to the Super Bowl, after having a Pro Bowl season in which he finished with 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns. He also led the league in multiple statistics, including passer rating (113.0) and QBR (72.8). Additionally, Purdy finished fourth in NFL MVP voting. But a year ago, no one knew what to
