Tavon Austin wasn't the only free agent wide receiver that the San Francisco 49ers worked out — or plan to work out — this week. The team also reportedly brought in Donte Moncrief and J.J. Nelson, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that the
49ers hope to sign Austin, a longtime St. Louis and Los Angeles Rams wideout who spent the last two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt on Wednesday was asked what Austin can bring to the team.
"Somebody who can stretch the field," Tartt responded. "Very elusive. I feel like he's still got it, and he can help our team a lot, offensively and on special teams."
As for the other two receivers, the Indianapolis Colts made Moncrief a third-round selection out of Ole Miss in 2014. He has caught 204 passes for 2,561 yards with 21 touchdowns through his six NFL seasons and racked up 48 catches for 668 yards and three scores with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018.
The Arizona Cardinals made Nelson was a fifth-round selection out of UAB in 2015. He spent last season with the Oakland Raiders, where he caught four passes for 36 yards and a score.
Nelson had over 1,000 combined receiving yards and eight combined touchdowns with Arizona during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that San Francisco also worked out former Miami Dolphins and New York Jets quarterback Luke Falk.

Three Key Defensive Free Agents to Make the 49ers Better in 2024
Although the defense finished as one of the top defenses in 2023 under Steve Wilks, the San Francisco 49ers struggled in a few areas, like stopping the run, finishing the pass rush with sacks, and surrendering explosive plays. In this editorial, we will look to find three defensive players to keep the 49ers defense among the elite.
The 49ers have 22 players scheduled to become free agents, 12 being defensive players. The team must address the edge, interior, and cornerback positions. Improving these three areas will keep the 49ers on top.
Three defensive ends—Chase Young, Randy Gregory, and Clelin Ferrell—are set to become free agents. Per Pro Football Focus (PFF), the trio totaled 74 pressures (11 sacks, 17 hits, and 46 hurries). If the 49ers want to
Rumor: Ravens reached out to 49ers about Deebo Samuel trade
Rumor has it that the Baltimore Ravens have inquired about the availability of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Jason La Canfora of 105.7 The Fan in Baltimore shared on his radio show that the Ravens reached out to the 49ers, but as of now, the Bay Area team seems to have no interest in engaging in trade discussions.
La Canfora reposted a social media post, which you can view below.
With @Ravens creating cap room, some of it could be earmarked for a WR. We heard they reached out to SF about Deebo availability (that's a no,
