Asomugha May be Odd Man Out in 49ers’ Roster Reshuffle

Nov 4, 2013 at 9:00 AM--

It seems more and more likely that when the 49ers suit up this Sunday to play the Carolina Panthers, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha won't be on the roster. With San Francisco due to make several roster moves this week – including the activation of wide receiver Mario Manningham, cornerback Eric Wright and rookie linebacker Nick Moody – some current 49ers will have to pay the price of their jobs. And Asomugha, the former All-Pro and Raiders standout who was trying to resurrect his career in San Francisco, seems the likely target, reports Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee."Asomugha has been a healthy scratch for three weeks and at age 32 he seems unlikely to be in the 49ers' future plans at the position," wrote Barrows.Barrows noted that it isn't as if Asomugha has played that poorly. But when he was sidelined by a minor injury, Tramaine Brock took his place as the nickel cornerback and has been outstanding. Undrafted rookie corner Darryl Morris also has been very good and has seen increased playing time in recent weeks. Now with the veteran Wright, 28, ready to play, Asomugha figures to be the odd man out.Asomugha has played in just three games for the 49ers (6-2), who come...

By David Bonilla

Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. 49ers mailbag: Will Brandon Aiyuk be on the roster on Friday morning? Will SF draft another quarterback?

By Marc Adams
Apr 24

We're just over 24 hours before round one of the NFL Draft begins. The San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to have their first pick in the opening round since 2021 when they drafted Trey Lance. But if it's a good trade that lands the 49ers some quality picks, we could see that happen, especially if there aren't any players at pick 31 that the team is excited about. We opened up the 49ers Webzone Mailbag to see what

George Kittle's message to Brandon Aiyuk amid contract talks with 49ers: "Be patient"

By David Bonilla
Apr 25

George Kittle made his sentiments clear in a recent conversation about his teammate, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The tight end emphasized that he couldn't picture the San Francisco 49ers without Aiyuk and spoke highly of him in a discussion with Fox News Digital's Scott Thompson. Throughout the offseason, Kittle has had several conversations with Aiyuk and empathizes with his situation. Reflecting on his own contract negotiation in 2020 before reaching an agreement with the 49ers, Kittle offered his best advice to Aiyuk: "Hey, be patient." Kittle added, "It's just kind of the way the Niners do things. I didn't
