Insider Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area has refuted the rumor that San Francisco 49ers WR Torrey Smith is on the trading block.

News of a potential trade of the 49ers receiver broke earlier tonight when Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that multiple teams had shown interest in Smith. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk then reported that, according to multiple sources, the Philadelphia Eagles were a team that was in discussions with the 49ers to acquire Smith.

"No deal is imminent, but the Eagles potentially acquiring Smith makes sense," wrote Florio. "He's been disappointing while playing on bad offenses in two seasons with the 49ers, and the Eagles would love to bolster their receiving corps for a run at the NFC East title."

Smith entered the season as the 49ers' number one receiver but has struggled through seven games. Jeremy Kerley actually leads the team in receiving with 30 receptions for 331 yards and two touchdowns. Smith has 13 receptions for 199 yards and two touchdowns. He was the 49ers' biggest free agent acquisition of the 2015 offseason and was signed to a five-year, $40 million contract with the team.

The 49ers struggling are currently 1-6 and have entered their bye week. "There's nothing worse than continuing to lose," Smith said during an interview with KNBR on October 18. "Everyone's doing their part to make sure that we're handling our business and we can try to finish this thing out strong and see what happens."

"I'm glad you guys don't talk to me within the first 24 hours of a loss," Smith later added.

49ers-Texans player-for-player trade fell apart on Tuesday

By David Bonilla
Mar 13

Defensive tackle Arik Armstead is now a free agent after the San Francisco 49ers released him on Wednesday. However, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that he was almost headed to the Houston Texans. A source told Barrows that on Tuesday, the 49ers had a deal in place to trade Armstead for Texans defensive tackle Maliek Collins. However, the deal fell apart when the Texans agreed to terms with edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Despite the failed trade, the 49ers ended up acquiring Collins in exchange for a seventh-round pick, the No. 232 overall selection in next month's draft. Collins is the second defensive tackle San Francisco has added this week, with the
