49ers meet with QB Connor Cook at MSU pro day

The San Francisco 49ers were among the teams that met with Michigan State QB Connor Cook at the Spartans' pro day today. Much of the 49ers' staff, including head coach Chip Kelly, are in attendance at San Jose State's pro day today, but ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Cook met with 49ers and Los Angeles Rams representatives before his workout and then Cleveland Browns representatives following his workout.
Even with Colin Kaepernick trade talks stalled, the 49ers are likely to be in the market for a quarterback in this year's draft.
Most mock drafts have the team taking Cal's Jared Goff with the seventh overall selection, but it is just as likely that the team focuses on another position with that pick and chooses to address the quarterback situation in a later round.
The 6-foot-4 Cook completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 9,194 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions over his college career for the Spartans. He is the 2015 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner, was First-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten QB of The Year last year, and came in ninth place in Heisman Trophy voting.
Cook has won the Big Ten Championship twice (2013, 2015), earning the MVP award in each of those games, and led his team to a 2014 Rose Bowl championship, where he was also the MVP, and a 2015 Cotton Bowl championship.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that 49ers regional scout Steve Rubio and outside linebackers coach Jason Tarver were scheduled to represent team at the Michigan State pro day.
