49ers Move up to Fifth Spot in 2016 Draft Order

Nov 30, 2015 at 9:51 PM--

After Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium, the San Francisco 49ers continue to sit at the bottom of the NFC West standings with a 3-8 overall record. The good news in what has otherwise been a disastrous season is that the 49ers will likely have a good draft selection in 2016. Last week, based on record and strength of schedule, the 49ers were penciled in with the sixth overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft.

How high the team will actually select will be determined by the rest of the season and their final record. As of right now, the team is looking to have the fifth overall selection. The Tennessee Titans, who formerly held the number two spot, take over the top spot from the San Diego Chargers. The 49ers still have the Cleveland Browns, who now sit at the number two spot with a loss on Monday night to the Baltimore Ravens, on their upcoming schedule.

Below is the draft order for all 32 first-round spots if the season ended today.

49ers to host Marshawn Kneeland and Jamal Hill on pre-draft visits

By David Bonilla
Mar 13

The San Francisco 49ers' evaluation of draft prospects is underway. As part of their assessment, the team will welcome two players for visits: former Western Michigan edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland and former Oregon safety Jamal Hill. San Francisco recently agreed to terms on two-year deals with defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos, bolstering its pass rush. However, after losing Clelin Ferrell in free agency and facing the likelihood of Chase Young playing elsewhere in 2024, the team appears keen on adding more explosiveness along the edges through the draft. Kneeland registered 57 tackles, including 7.5 for a loss, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 10 game appearances with Western Michigan as a senior in 2023, per

Mock Draft 4.0: 49ers address interior D-line early

By Wayne P. Brown
Mar 16

Things will change as the rest of free agency plays out. However, this mock draft tries to address the San Francisco 49ers' key needs and doesn't rely heavily on the moves that have already been made this week—just yet. This mock draft was created without heavily factoring in the trade for defensive tackle Maliek Collins, so it still includes 11 selections. Another mock draft reflecting the most recent roster changes is coming soon. Round 1, Pick 31 DT Byron Murphy II, Texas Although the 49ers addressed the defensive tackle position in free agency, Byron Murphy II may be the best player at the 31. Murphy II's quick burst and get-off makes him one of the most dangerous defensive tackles in the draft. He will impact the
