Game Day: Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers

Oct 22, 2015 at 12:00 AM--

Tonight, the San Francisco 49ers (2-4) will host the Seattle Seahawks (2-4) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Seahawks are coming off of a 27-23 home loss against the Carolina Panthers. The 49ers are coming off of a 25-20 home win against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 49ers play their second primetime game in three weeks and their second game in five days with this Thursday Night Football matchup. The 49ers lead the all-time series at home against the Seahawks, 8-7, including wins in five out of the past six games as the home team.

In their victory over the Ravens on Sunday, the offense used a balanced air attack as the 49ers had three players register at least 85 receiving yards in the same game for the first time since 1982. WR Anquan Boldin finished the game with six receptions for 102 yards and WR Torrey Smith had three catches for 96 yards and one touchdown, including a 72-yard scoring haul.

Can't-Miss Play: Revenge for Torrey

FB Bruce Miller registering three receptions for a career-high 89 yards. In addition, WR Quinton Patton hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from QB Colin Kaepernick for his first career touchdown reception.

This will be the first time since 2009 that these two teams have met while possessing losing records. Both are tied for last place in the NFC West and another loss for either could be devastating for their 2015 hopes. The Seahawks are coming off of a Super Bowl appearance while the 49ers, after a bizarre offseason, are not meeting internal expectations.

While both teams have been downplaying the rivalry this week, playing such an important game on a short week adds to each team's season-long troubles.

Carlos Hyde Is a Go

It was reported on Thursday that despite being listed as questionable with a nagging foot injury, RB Carlos Hyde will play against the Seahawks. Hyde has rushed for 430 yards with three touchdowns this season.

No Simpson Available

The 49ers decided not to activate WR Jerome Simpson for their game against the Seahawks. Simpson, who was suspended for six games, has not practiced with the team since preseason. Given the short week, it was unlikely that he would be activated for this game. He is likely to be activated, but the 49ers must first make room for him on the roster.

A Tale of Two Quarterbacks

Pro Football Focus has some interesting statistics for this matchup. Seahawks QB Russell Wilson currently ranks fourth with a 77.8% accuracy rate while under duress. Kaepernick ranks second-to-last in the same category at 48.9%. 49ers quarterbacks targeting Seahawks CB Richard Sherman have a horrible 18.6 passer rating, which includes four interceptions. However, Kaepernick is coming off his best statistical game of the season where he had 340 passing yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a career high yards-per-completion average.

The 49ers defense has allowed opposing quarterbacks 2.86 seconds to throw this year, which ranks third-most in the NFL. Wilson's 119.0 QB rating when his time in the pocket exceeds 2.6 seconds is the third-highest among QBs – behind only New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Right Tackle Vulnerabilities

The 49ers' Erik Pears is one of the worst right tackles in the NFL with a Pro Football Focus grade of -11.2. Seahawks DE Cliff Avril, who he will likely go up against, has a +19.9 grade. On the other side, Seahawks RT Garry Gilliam has a -15.8 grade. If there was ever an opportunity for the 49ers defense to generate a pass rush, it is there.

Steelers reportedly interested in trading for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Mar 19

The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly interested in trading for star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. However, the San Francisco 49ers' asking price of the No. 17 overall pick plus a player was seemingly too high for the team. Now, it appears another AFC team might be trying to pry Aiyuk away from the West Coast. Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh-area radio station 93.7 The Fan reports that the Steelers are looking to work out a deal with the 49ers for the receiver. "Sources: The Steelers have looked into 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk," Fillipponi wrote on social media. "He's entering the last year of his contract. Steelers would have to execute a sign and trade. But they've shown
