And that is your opinion. Obviously there are people who disagree which is why there have been 9 guys to win the CY award. I think you could easily argue that Mariano Rivera was the most valuable pitcher in the AL several times and that he meant more to that team in the Yankees glory years than any starting pitcher in the league.

I'm kind of torn between both of you on this, because I see some merit in what each of you have to say. There is a certain mindset and aura that comes from being a dominant closer, and if you can tie in wins, saves, whip, stikeout to walk ratio etc. to a relief pitcher that has a dominant year then I can see John's point. However, I do agree with 99 in the sense that it is such a limited sample of work, and does a "specialist" really deserve to win the highest pitching award.

BTW 99, you come up with some good arguments but even you admit to exaggerating your points. If you could tone that down a little you would probably have a lot more people agree with you on certain things because they would read what you have to say and think about your point of view. That being said for my part I'm always interested in what you have to say, even though like John, you are almost always wrong... jk jk jk jk
