One of the boy's mother even confroted Sandusky. There's all your "This is what I would do..." talk. She was the boy's mother and this is ALL she did.
Gricar, he said, reviewed the police reports in private including, presumably, notes or recordings of two conversations that the police heard between Sandusky and the boy's mother. But Gricar had a reputation for thoroughness, and if he thought he had enough to charge Sandusky, he would have, De Boef and other lawyers said.

Like I said, you all can say this or that should happen or you would have done this or that, but it's always easier when you are outside looking in.
And Sandusky could be even more of a fearful person that a predator. This guy fooled a s**t load of people so to go out and flame Joe Pa...well...let's wait until this is all done before you guys say he shoulda....and since he didn't he should go to jail or quit what he loves doing.
the poor boy's mother was the one who filed the charges with the police. let's not forget that sandusky got his victims from the foundation. they were underprivlidged kids that had single parents. so its very easy to see how a person as beloved/powerful/etc as sandusky could strong arm his way around a underprivlidged family that was trying to make a quick buck by making up bs about a legendary coach.
there is no doubt that sandusky should be tortured endlessly for the next 50 years. there is no doubt that the two administrators that have stepped down/fired are completely to blame, but that does not mean that paterno who was the most powerful man on campus, if even on paper only he had a superior, knew all and ignored all. paterno brought in all the money, all the boosters, all the media. he could bring the masses of students and alumni down on any administrator if he wanted to, even the AD, university president, whoever in that university. because paterno brought in 50% if not more of the money to run that university and pay everyone's salaries. so yeah paterno was the most powerful man. no way he doesn't hear all/see all/know all. no chance what so ever. if you don't believe that, then we can agree to disagree.
in crimes like this, i'd rather shoot first and ask questions later. at worst you arrest and charge an innocent man and he has done nothing and this is far better then the alternative. the alternative being what actually happened.
Yes but that's all assuming that Joe PA believed enough to warrant doing this. Like I said, the people a monster fools first are the ones closest to him. We need to see how this plays out before we start puffing our chests out. Not saying you are puffing your chest out but it annoys me to hear, "I would do this..." "He shoulda..." talk.
Unless you've been there, you have NO idea what you would do and you have NO idea what JoePA knew or was aware of. For all we know, he's an old man that was oblivious to what goes on around him and was ONLY a figure head.
The one's closest are always the quickest to fool.
i get what you are saying about the one's closest are always the quickest to fool. ofcourse no one wants to believe that your friend that you toiled with for decades on end would be capable of doing something like this. and absolutely it is difficult to say that without a doubt i would have done this, becuase like you said earlier in the moment its harder to react due to adrenaline, emotions, etc then normal. i totally get that. first i wanna say that i left out the grad assistant in this and he probably should take the majority of the blame cause he actually saw it. but the next day the grad assistant went to paterno. so now the grad assistant had what about 12 hours to think about this? if it were me, maybe i would have consulted my family and closest friends. having read another article, the grad assistant was born and raised in state college. so he was probably leery of throwing such an accusation out. so ok he goes to family friends and they might say hey look this is pretty serious stuff. take it to paterno. he will do the right thing. so that is what the kid (28 years old at that time) does. he trust that paterno will handle it properly by looking into it and if there is anything wrong that it will be taken care of. at this point i would suspect that family/friends of grad assistant & himself want to konw what happened/happens. cause see when you see something like that, there is no way you can just forget about it. regardless of adrenaline, emotions, etc. so now paterno, with knowledge of the 1998 incident tells the higher ups. then the only thing that results is that sandusky is not allowed on campus w children anymore. thats it. that is all that happens. so now as the grad assistant you ask yourself i know what i saw. i konw it damit. there was no question. and this is it? grad assistant definitely should have done more. paterno knowing of both incidents now definitely should have done more. i just think the first time ok you give the benefit of the doubt because its your pal and you can't believe it. but at the same time this is some of the most serious crimes anyone can think of. so then the second time its not a coincidence or some poor family trying to make a buck or hearsay or misunderstanding. the second time when paterno reports it to his higher ups a day after he is told, now two days after the incident, he's mulled this over for probably 24 hours. he knows what he is doing. he is not some old man that was senile and didnt know what was going on and had the wool pulled over his eyes. he knew. and he did nothing.
Yes but once Joe Pa tells the AD, that is where his decisions can be defended for or against and where we don't know what happened. Did the DA tell Joe Pa that the police were notified and Joe Pa relayed that to the assistant? That would make me think, OK, it will be investigated.
The BIGGEST question here is why didn't McQuery follow up and who was the one who softened or forced him into not following up? Joe Pa could be thinking, since it hearsay, that it was no big deal since McQuery never again asked about it.
McQuery could have been approached by Sandusky (remember, Sandusky knew McQuery saw him) and threatened or promised great things. Joe Pa could have been completely out of the equation for all we know or he could be the key variable for all we know.
Shoot, the AD could be also be into little boys for all we know and is on Sandusky's side since HE IS one of the few who lied to a grand jury.
We don't know until we actually know. No point in crucifying innocent people right now.
