NFL TO CHANGE OVERTIME TO 10 MINUTES INSTEAD OF 15

Did it in the name of "player safety" just in case a team has a Thursday night game the next week.

Why dont they just get rid of Thursday night games if its that big of a concern?

how fkn stupid
Makes the first possession all in for a TD. Otherwise you most likely lose or tie. Unless you can hold them behind their 40.
Couldn't you have a 9:30 drive, kick a field goal, and give you opponent 30 sec of possession time?
They are so worried about player safety that they want 18 game schedules.

Didnt see a thread about this. I hate this rule. Especially because both teams are required to have possessions. I think this rule could make for a lot more ties....which of course NO ONE wants to see.

A rule that has been changed doesnt belong in a thread that has fan proposed rule change ideas. Totally different topic.

Even when it was 15 minutes, I always wondered what would happen if the first team did a drive that lasted almost the whole OT period, kicked a field goal, and then time ran out on the opposing team's drive. I assumed the game would end in the regular season with the team ahead winning, but in the postseason I had no clue if the game would end or would keep going into double OT until the drive was over.
Just another rule that rewards being aggressive on offense.

As long as they shorten the preseason

Think that really makes a difference? A shorter preseason is only going to keep mileage off of guys who will be out of the NFL, practice squad players or special team guys. Most guys playing a lot of snaps in the last 6 quarters of preseason don't make NFL rosters, those that do fill out the last roster spots.

Just the opposite. If Im the team receiving first in OT, Id try very hard to chew as much clock off bf I score. Leaving the opposition with minimum time left to score.

Guarantee this will backfire on the NFL when the first team eg Patriots uses the entire 10 min of possession to kick a game winning FG.
Wish they'd extend game day rosters to 50.
