Look, in many ways, the Strasberg, Harper hype is similar to the Roy, Oden hype.
Remember how Roy and Oden were going to lead the Blazers to a championship?
The Spurs were discussing whether or not they should trade Tim Duncan for Greg Oden.
So, we'll see whether or not the Nationals accomplish anything with their core.
But as a Giants fan, I'm happy with the direction of our team and our young talent. We don't need to trade Tim Lincecum.

so...
Lincy-Panda
Price - Longoria
Strasburg - Zimmerman
3 sps and 3 3b... all pretty special and I bet if you went outside a Giants forum and into a Rays or Nats forum the responses would be very different.
Timmy/panda is the most proven. Price is having a good half season so far.
So that's where that is.

However, since you are the NBA guru let me ask you this. Do you think Jerry West was smart when he traded an all star center and starter for the Lakers, Vlade Divac ,for a high school kid prospect that had never even played in college?
Your analogy fails because Vlade Divac was never an All-Star when he was traded for Kobe.
You are right. However, he was a 7 foot center that had averaged 16 pts and 10 rebounds just a year earlier and only 27 years old. Trading a 7 foot center with skills for a HS player took guts and vision.

Well in terms of this year its a landslide for the 2 Rays players. Not even close.

I give Jerry West credit for recognizing Kobe's talent
But trading Divac didn't take guts and vision. Divac was never as good as his stats. Troy Murphy put up better stats for the Warriors and we all wanted him traded.

Do you guys know the story of when West scouted Kobe. He and a few Laker guys went to see him play. They sat down and after 5 minutes or so, he got up to leave. On the way out, he was heard saying to his crew "I've seen enough. He's better than anybody we have on the team, right now."

What's crazy is that if Pablo starts hitting at the level he did last year and is capable of, he'd actually be the 2nd best 3B after A-Rod.. offensively that is

I could be wrong, but I think this discussion is more about the talent (comparing/contrasting/projecting) than it is the dynamics of an actual trade. I agree, even if you get back top-level young talent like Strasburg and Harper, you instantly lose the locker room/fan base for that season, and you'd likely have to blow everything up and re-design your team around those young pieces. It's an admission that you're in rebuilding mode and playing for the future and not the present.
Bottom line, this trade will never happen, but it's an interesting conversation to have regarding the talent of the players mentioned.

Here's one for you John...
Would you trade Stras, Harper and Longoria for Josh Johnson Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton?
Or even Han ram and jj for stras and Harper

Well you meant Zimmerman and not Longoria in that deal.
Strasburg,Zimmerman and Harper for Johnson Ramirez, and Stanton.... hmmmmm
Honestly I'd need to see more of Stanton to really say. Really interesting deal. I think thats pretty damn even in terms of upside although Florida's 3 clearly are better right now.
I know I will get more hate mail.. but I would deal Lincy,Posey, and Panda for the 3 Marlins you named.
Lincy > Johnson Although not by that much. Josh Johnson is that good
Stanton = Posey Both big time prospects
Hanley >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Panda
OK.. I should stop before I get more hate than Sabean. LOL

Good post Ghost. Yes, this type of deal could never happen and would certainly not happen during the season. Just kind of fun to discuss. I guess it brings me back to my baseball card trading days.

Yeah my bad I meant Zimmerman.
I do find it funny that you want to see more of stanton and are so sure about Harper. Johnson is info my favorite pitchers. He has great stuff and consistent mid to high 90's fastball. He was my sleeper CY young candidate before the season(I also predicted greinke would have an ERA over 4 but that's a different topic) but Stanton IA supposed to be a great prospect with tons of power...
Its definitely interesting to think about
Two stud pitchers. Two stud left infielders. Two stud prospects.
Obviously the easier and more popular choice is the proven guys.
