Geez, now Devine isn't feeling alright with his elbow.
One of those many things that needed to go the A's way to compete just hasn't worked out and its not even the start of the season yet, but injuries and health look like they'll continue to be huge issues this upcoming season.
As for what the A's may ask for in a Holliday deal during the season if they're not competing, I'm sure Beane will ask for something similar to what they got in return for Swisher. Maybe a team's top couple of top 5 prospects albeit the A's look like they got the ChiSox best young players in their minors with Sweeney, Gio and a mending DLS.

Was Swisher going to be a FA the next year? I think that might be the difference. Obviously Holiday is a great player but if I was running a team I dont think I would want to give up my top prospects for a guy who is represented by Boras and will just be there a couple of months. However, on the other hand. they would get the draft picks themselves later, so perhaps I'm completley wrong on it.

Heh, thanks man. I just got tired of looking at it
Outman with a nice showing today. 5.2 innings, 2 earned runs 6 Ks. Any chance he beats out Cahill or Anderson?

Swisher just signed a 6 year deal before the 07 season.
As for Holliday and whether a team would be willing to give up top prospects, depends on what team trades for him. Obviously a team as loaded as the BoSox are financially that they can basically recoup those kind of prospects by overpaying for draft picks that not many other teams are willing to do still, or going after those in the international market.
Also depends how desperate that team is. Obviously MIL hadn't make the playoffs in decades so they could afford to give up a LaPorta type stick for a guy who they figured and did put them over the top.
Now unlike MIL, teams that may target a Holliday lets say if the A's are out of it early and are looking to unload him for a package deal that is worth more than two picks if they kept him at the end of the season and let him walk as a FA...those teams like a BOS, NYY, NYM and others most likely will end up with Holliday anyway in FA especially if he does make the playoffs with that team and said team believes Holliday will be an important piece for that team for the forseeable future ala Manny was for the Dodgers last season/offseason.

As for Outman, well with Devine and Duke starting the year on the DL, I think it pretty much locks him a spot on the opening day roster...now whether it'll be in the rotation or pen, who knows but I'd say he'll be heading for the pen.

Well some park news at ML's blog...
-Perata is most likey gonna run for the Oakland mayoral spot next election. Probably has the most power potential of anybody that'll be running for that seat, even with his "issues" that he's faced.
-US senator Boxer who is a resident of Oakland wrote a letter to Selig saying the A's should stay in Oakland.
...nice that there are politicians who are finally showing some pro Oakland sentiments to this issue but I still believe that Wolff wants the A's in the south bay no matter what any politician tells him or Selig.
Now if the SJ plans falls thru, who knows, but that's still a long ways to know what will happen with the A's and SJ.

What the hell??
Makes no sense with Anderson completely outpitching Cahill in ST. Gallagher and Eveland haven't been great either, but still.... i just dont see how Cahill earned the #2 spot.

Yep, looks like Gallagher might start the year in the pen as the A's brass chose Outman to be the #5.
I still think Gallagher will end up being a good SP, 3/4 type in a rotation.

I'm not liking the prospects for this season.
Just too many things have gone wrong even before the season starts that I doubt all the things that needed to go right for this season won't happen if this is how the season is starting.
