2009 Oakland A's thread

Another of our 4th/5th starter candidates just got rocked today.

Oh okay, Outman gets bombed.

Least Gallagher did well.

Also looks as the Marlins will be getting a new stadium where the old Orange Bowl used to be.

That leaves only the A's and Rays not having concrete plans of getting a new park done while every other team is playing in a new park, building one, or just starting to build one.

Well I guess ESPN is learning something from MLBN and they'll too have a show dedicated to every single MLB team...albeit this one will be only a half an hour while MLB's 30/30 was a full hour.

How will ESPN talk about teams like PIT, SEA, HOU, FLR, MIN and other non major market and or north eastern teams for that long of a time period...not like they have much experience doing so.

We should trade for Clay Buchholz from Boston. With Penny, Masterson and Smoltz all ahead of him, it'd be virtually impossible for him to log any significant innings for Boston. He was a former top 10 prospect and could do well with a change of scenery. Make it happen Billy!

Wow, where did Buchholz's name come from? Sure I'd love to have him, just a few years ago he was thought to be one of the top pitching prospects and then throwing a no hitter and winning a game in the 07 WS sure didn't hurt his status but just as it looked as he was on his way to a great start to his MLB career, he didn't pitch much or if at all last season in the bigs after having a great debut the year before.

I don't know how he'll be available even though BOS's pitching staff looks pretty settled and like you said there is a couple of talented arms in front of him but if I'm BOS, why do I deal still a pretty good young arm. You can't have enough good arms and not like those in the BOS rotation with Beckett, Penny, and others are all that durable or shown that much consistent durability in the bigs.

Saw that Braden may now be the opening night pitcher, what happened to Eveland?

Geez, Braden? I like him and he showed good signs last season after taking over for Blanton the last few months but opening night starter????

Well the A's did have Heredia as an opening day starter once...

Idk I was just thinking about how f*cking loaded Boston's pitching staff and how we should've gone after penny and than I started wondering about Buccholz.

It just seems to me that since Boston went out and got two starters in free agency plus Masterson being in the good draces of management really pushes him down the chart and doens't really show a lot of confidence in him. Of course I don't know what we have that they would be interested in considering they are f*cking loaded but it was just a thought.

I doubt they'll deal him.

There has nothing been anywhere that relates to BOS shopping any of their young talent and for a team loaded financially as BOS is, they can wait it out with Buchholz as they should. What is he, only 22 or 23, still very very young and still could have a very good MLB career although don't know how well he pitch in the minors for most of last season.

I don't think at this point the A's will be looking to add any more young pitching talent, seems like they're pretty deep in that category with...

...all could see some time in the rotation this upcoming season and guys like Simmons and possibly a Ross maybe ready sometime in 2010.

What the A's need are proven established veteran pitchers who can eat innings as they had back a decade ago when the made their runs with the likes of a Heredia, Appier, Oliveras and even Candiotti.

Penny would've been nice but he too is injury prone and a team like the A's can afford to pay a guy the amount that BOS did who has the money to "sacrifice" for a Penny because they got a veteran pitching staff and also young talent they could call up that is potentially major league ready.

Well at least Anderson pitched well today, allowed a couple of unearned runs today in 4 innings.

Has a ST ERA in the low 2s so unless something funny happens, I think Anderson is leading the pack of youngsters who have a shot in the rotation to start the season.

Duke basically is pulled after one innings after a "rehab start".

Not good so most likely he starts the year on the DL.

That's not surprising. Dude is always hurt.

True but you'd hope after a full offseason that he could've at least started the season healthy enough to pitch.

I thought getting maybe 25 starts was best case scenario with him and needed for the A's to make a serious run for the AL West, now who knows.
