Big time! And he may be asked if we need to sign a key FA.

If someone (Kolohe) has a reference for the "draft value trade chart " I would be most grateful for a reference. I bookmarked it a few yrs ago and it comes up empty when I refer back to it. Help...Please?
NC, just out of curiousity, are you banking on trent moving up twice for two starters in top 25, or do your think he is going to push all top 5 picks in first 96 as far up as he can?. ie, do you think he is gunning for 2 players in particular, or is he trying to get all our first 5 picks up as high as he can...ie, quality or quantity? Also curious about the TV comment that there is a terrific drop off in talent after 15th pick . Man, I don't see it that way, with plenty of talent, esp in our wheelhouse, at least thru first rd, of DE, CB, S, OL. Tavon is on Maycock's mock draft at #16-18, and that assumes that 4 teams aren't taking 2nd and 3rd rd QBs in the first rd.

Command, just for grins, I took the quality route over quantity (but they may be entirely wrong), and :
combined 1st and 5th picks for 728 pts and 25th pick, definitely starter
combined 2nd and 3rd picks for 852pt and 20th pick., definitely starter
That leaves basically 4th, 7th,8th, and 9th picks at 220 pts+29 pts+ 26pts+20 pts =295pts , which is 61st pick, maybe a starter, but probably not first yr.
So we can definitely draft 2 starters in areas of need at 20th and 25th picks, CB and S or (DL, OT, Wr), but that would basically eat up all picks except for 3 compensatories. I don't think baalke would do that. I look for him to upgrade first 4 picks, but later rds(7th) are virtually not of much value. I don't think he moves up for 2 first rounders, but perhaps 1 and then improves on 2nd and 3rd picks, maybe 4th. Lot of talent out there in 2nd and thru mid 3rd rd, and he may improve our 1st pick and play the other 4 straight up with minor moves using later rds picks.

I personally think we'll stay put...MAY move back a couple picks to acquire future picks (and still get our guy). I can certainly see Baalke doing that in the mid-range rounds for additonal picks next year. I doubt we'll be moving up as the needs we have are deep this year at CB, S and DL. That said, it sure seems like we're going BIG from now on. No more micro-WR's or CB's. It's bigger, stronger, faster, physical, etc. We've already seen that with the CB's we've been interested in and draft looks. Boldin, Lockette, etc.

Agree, Command. That said, the combination packages just thrown together show it is very doable to land a 20th or 25th pick ,and interestingly, Tavon is in that mix. So we could do that and pickup draft's best WR who is FAST. In actuality, I expect to see CB, S, DE, OT picks before WR, so probably no Tavon...but we do have the ability to get him. Bring on the draft.

I think that is the basic principle right there...we HAVE the option to move up if absolutely needed. Hell, we could even trade away picks next year as well b/c really, how many holes will we really have? Baalke have done a fantastic job of navigating the draft and putting this organization in great shape for years. The next step is getting those much needed positions filled (like you mentioned) as upgrades of potential and then the coaching staff developing them and then the coordinators using them properly. The latter, being the area I'm more skeptical of.

Total agreement on the way baalke has handled this, and a good part of that includes PK, and Anquan. How someone could put together a meaningful mock draft is a mystery to me, because that implies they are rating roster players as well as FA and Draft players exactly like baalke, something seemingly impossible. Also, never knowing what goofy moves someone up the chain is making could ruin an otherwise very thoughtful mock draft. If as I think, 3 QBs for sure come off (raids for sure, now...i think) plus jax, buf, cards, maybe cleveland....that makes a huge difference on each pick we make, and the variables are changing all the time. With 14 picks, it seems piggy to have that much, but baalke does and it will be worth the show to see how he manages all this. If somebody comes even half way close to guessing what we do I will be really impressed. Every pick is going to affect the following pick and with 3 or 4 QBs coming off, wow do we ever look good.
