Why? Signing Abraham would likely be one year, maybe two, depending on performance. Drafting a guy with #31 or #34 gives us the same depth, but insures us for the future. And you could still draft a guy in the 5th.
If he still had the goods, why would ATL, a SB contender, release him instead of renegotiating his 3 year $16 million contract (which he signed at the beginning of the 2012 season)?
It's called being old, and too high priced for Atlanta, who had some cap issues. But on a 1 or 2 yr low priced deal, would be worth it. Still can draft a guy or 2.

Build through the draft. The only FA we have brought in that has been solid is Justin Smith. Every other guy has been soso or purpose-less. Moss, Jacobs, Clements, Whitner on some level....Ginn, Goodwin.....

He's too high priced
because he's old.... and he'll get at least $5 million a year... sorry... not buying, especially when we can draft a guy who will make less than a mil a year for the next few years
and be groomed as J. Smith's replacement.

niners need to resign The Hawk, he is our signal caller for the secondary our main problem through week 15 - Superbowl was lack of pressure by the line due to injuries late in the season. Resign Goldson cut Rogers sign Shaun Smith from Miami and beef up the depth at D-line through the draft and free agency and Josh Cribbs to play opposite of Crabtree and use em on special teams

Seattle just upgraed their WR. 49ers really need to address their DBs and more DL. Get Cribbs in FA and use 1st and 2nd round for DB and DL.
