Maybe I'm a little late to the party with this question, but why would the 9ers choose Dahl ( 3 years - 5.2M ) over Huff ( 3 years - 6M )?????

My ONLY guess is that Huff wanted more from the 9ers, but after they signed Dahl and the market dried up, he took less at Baltimore?

Please help me understand this because Huff is the FAR superior FS to Dahl. Based on what Huff got, I can only see this as a failure by our FO.

Best explained if you read this article :

49ers' draft should yield Goldson's replacement | CSN Bay Area

Don't think Huff will play special team. Not sure if he can play strong safety either.

Plus, when the team picks their FS of the future in this year's draft, Dahl may be a better "teacher" for the rookie than Huff would be.

Based on what? That Dahl can teach him how to get burned deep? Huff can play single high, something Dahl can't. Huff had 15 PD last year, Dahl has 12 in his entire career. How is Dahl a better teacher?

I guess the reasons will go unknown to us average schmucks, the bottom line is.

Huff is a better FS, our biggest hole on the roster
Huff costs the same as Dahl
Huff's last team was down the street

The fact that those don't add up to him being on the 9ers leads me to believe they just didn't like the dude...for some reason.
Is Tim McDonald's son a FS?
Can Gire play FS?

No, but I heard Gholston is the guy we should be going after.
Pat White will be our new starting FS.

Not a huge fan of TJ McDonald.

How about the actual FS that McDonald coached up, Phillip Thomas.

ehh.. too generic of a name.. all aboard the Bacarri Rambo bandwagon
The guys i would like to see are

Phillip Thomas FS

At SS Gimme either JJ Wilcox, or John Boyett (if his knees seem ok)

CB gimme Robert Alford.
I kind of hope Spillman steps it up. Ever since I saw him make that goal line stop against the Ravens 2 seasons ago on Thanksgiving, I wanted to see more of his plays.

Thomas or Amerson at the end of the 2nd would be great.
Whitner is a big hitter, so I think they need a FS that is better in coverage or can go sideline to sideline and play single high saftey. He will need to come up and tackel but still I would like a guy that is better in coverage.
