You've got to admit when you watch this thing - he looks like he's got massive potential. Let's hope all the focused work he's been putting in with Kaepernick and some good Niners coaching makes him into a player who can contribute this year.

Whoever Trent Baalke picks I am confident. So far we haven't drafted a bust yet. Some guys are projects but they all seem to eventually get there.

You seem pretty sure about that. In fact, a lot of fans around here seem pretty sure it sucks. I'm not so sure about that. By the time Crabtree comes back, Kaepernick will have learned to spread the ball around. Boldin will take Crabtree's place as the go-to possession receiver. Williams will be his quick little self in the slot. All the team really needs is for one of the three young guys, Jenkins, Patton or Lockette, to be a threat of some kind. Hopefully Jenkins or Lockette can be a long threat. They've got another target at second TE who is bigger, stronger, taller and has better hands. One of the most common complaints about Kaepernick last season was that he was leaning too hard on Crabtree and not spreading the ball around - he is now forced out of that habit and he has the entire off season left to figure out how to spread the ball around.

I'm not sure why everyone is so damn sure the Niners are screwed.

I was just thinking the same thing today at work that it may help the development of Kaepernick with being able to spread the ball around more during the season. I do believe this will benefit the wr's, te's and Kaepernick as the season progresses.

Vernon Davis is practically a receiver. Once, you factor him in too, it's not so bad. Boldin, VD, Williams (most underrated WR among niner fans) and Jenkins/Patton. That's not bad IMO.

A bit more about Lockette. Nothing really knew, but we have time to spare.

Lockette looks the part at 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds. He was a national track champion in community college and Division III and is now described as perhaps "Kaepernick's closest confidant." Even before Crabtree's injury, coach Jim Harbaugh was talking up Lockette as a factor."

Maybe, just maybe Lockette will do well. I really hope he does.

Listened to Harbaugh on 95.7 The Game earlier today, and he specifically mentioned Jenkins, Patton, and Lockette as guys who will be competing to fill into the spot vacated by Crabtree. It sounds like they'll be on equal footing when training camp opens, each guy having an equal opportunity to win the job. He mentioned Williams and Manningham as being "on the other side", along with Boldin, Hall, Hastings.

If Mays was a Singletary pick which it seems it was I would agree with the other poster that he hasn't drafted a bust yet. Closest thing to it so far has been Ron Johnson and Jason Slowey and if the only picks you are missing on are 6th rounders you're doing outstanding. Could throw Nate Byham in there as well but again 6th rounder and might be on the team yet if he didn't get hurt. Mike Person, Cam Johnson and Curtis Holcolmb are misses but can't hold late 7th rounders against him. Fleming is still a question mark with the injury last year but he was a 5th. Also, putting aside Jenkins as it's too early to tell and I expect him to do well this year.

He's done well even in the late rounds. Kyle Williams 6th, Phillip Adams 7th (2ints for Raiders last year), Bruce Miller 7th, Anthony Dixon 6th. Edit: Also, depends on what you call a bust. I'd say anyone after round 3 that doesn't turn out you can't call a bust. Some would say only 1st rounders can be busts. Some might say 4th and 5th rounders can be busts. Depends on people's definition.

That was the first thing I thought too.

This article below is a big part of the reason why I'm more hopeful about a practice squad receiver than usual. Anyone who has doubts about Ricardo Lockette because he's a practice squad guy should remember that part of the reason he didn't make in on the Seahawks was that he had injury problems and they evidently were too short-sighted or busy to be patient and work with him. That isn't the case right now and this is pretty interesting to me:
