Harbaugh is no dummy. After Alex fell flat on his face in the NFC Championship (and wasted a killer effort from our defense) Harbaugh tried to get a new starting qb on the first day of free agency (and later lied about it). When that didn't work he felt that Kap was probably a year away so he brought Alex back for one season. The Niners defense and special teams are not at the same level as they were last yr and it became clear against good opponents that a game manager at qb would not be enough (see the Vikes and Giants games where we got our asses kicked) Alex got hurt and Kaepernick proved he was ready now so Harbaugh pulled the trigger and benched Alex a few months early. end of story,

The Niners front office EXPECTED this to happen. Why do you think his 3 yr contract included NO SIGNING BONUS. They guaranteed his salary for this season only and can release him in March without taking a cap hit.

Not with this Offense. At least Kaepernick is not tweeting.

Just don't feel it anymore. Not saying it won't happen but we look unstable and affected by injury. Hunter Williams smith are huge contributors . Hate to say it but Williams felt like the second best wr before manning ham got hurt.. And our d still has to prove it is even opperational after j smiths injury

Agree, just don't know how this years play by Alex didn't sway Jim to hold off. Alex had many fine traits and had the whole locker rooms support (as he was elected catain by his peers). The injuries are pulling up with kap and the team dosnt seem to be playing as tight with him. Maybe Jim and roman were taking it personally when Alex would audible out of their stupid predictable plays . Fact of the matter is consistent minimal turnover ball control play is NEEdeD for our D to perform at a hi level with minimal substitutions. Period. It wasn't always pretty but I would take last years team style back in a heartbeat. Can't say what our identity is now. Whereas with Alex it was quite clear, remember he was here with our core group of talented players long before harbaugh .

Alex stats were inflated by gimme games against the Bills and Jets. Also, Harbaugh is smart enough to realize that qb rating doesn't take into account passes that were completed on 3rd downs but killed drives because they were far short of the first down. Alex was king of the two yard completion on 3rd and long.

I don't understand how we lose to such random ass teams.
WE BEAT THE DAMN PACKERS,SAINTS, LIONS .SEAHAWKS,BEARS AND THE PHUCGGIN PATRIOTS!
I think this last loss was something of an oversee type thing. Maybe Harbros has a plan.
The seahawks were included in his rage lists of teams we beat.
I think random more describes the inability to play well vs STL and Minny

If we don't win it, then this QB switch and change in offensive philosophy towards the end of the year will be the greatest epic fail in our franchises history.

You have to look at the teams without the hype. The Niners were not the best team in the NFL just because they beat New England in Foxboro and they are not as bad as many people now believe them to be after losing in Seattle.
Yes, the Niners need Justin Smith back for the playoffs (please rest him this week vs Arizona even if he's fit to go!) - any team would be better with a healthy Justin Smith in the line-up. Yes, the Niners defence has looked jaded and vunerable for the last six quarters .....but it's just six quarters of football.
I'd like to see the Niners re-establish a running game to eat up the clock, help Kaep with playaction and also allow the defence to stay off the field for longer.
I believe they can win the Superbowl but I am not convinced they will win the SB. Every team in the NFC has a weakness or two and can be beaten. I wouldn't rule out the 49ers. Don't forget this is a team that this season has won in Lambeau, The Superdome and Foxboro and at the start of the season I didn't think it was possible to win all three of those games. I believe with the players the 49ers have (9 pro-bowlers) that they have as good a shot as anyone once the playoffs start.

I don't get it. Its as if our offense was consistent with Smith. As if Giants, seahawks and vikings performances did not exist. The offense was not great with Smith either. We put up 40 points in New England for Pete's sakes.
Having a good completion percentage against crap teams means nothing. We need to stop romanticizing how great the offense was with Alex. It was very up and down.
