Should the 49ers trade TE Vernon Davis this offseason?

I don't care about the criticism. I guess my line of thinking is if we're not going to use Vernon, we might as well get something in return for him.

Just look at his stats over the last 4 games: http://www.49ers.com/team/roster/Vernon-Davis/3a7d33c5-9d6b-4c78-973d-faf80e03761d

I don't think we can expect things to dramatically change once we get to the playoffs. It's not like we can just flip a switch.

Vernon is one of my favorite players. I don't want to see him go. All I'm saying is I don't understand why we can't find ways to get him the ball? And when we do try to get him the ball he hasn't done very much!

Considering Harbaugh's success at developing TE's at Stanford, yes I would make that deal and throw in a 5th Round pick.

1) Why do you think Michael Crabtree is having such a good year. Why do you think Crab always gets 1 on 1 coverage and is open?

2) If you don't see the difference between a team that throws it like 24 times a game vs. the Patriots or Packers who throw it like 55 times a game I don't know what to say. Big difference in the stats put up there.

3) Early in the year he was getting all kinds of yards and TD's because Alex was playing. That's his favorite target. Kaep has better chemistry with D. Walker. In large part because they both used to be 2nd string. They have worked together and have their timing down. Kaep has no rythm or timing with VD. That's obvious to anybody.

4) No we are not trading the biggest beast TE in the game. Did the watch the playoffs last year?.....

Wow. Good job San Diego.

I just wanted to emphasize San Diego's point. When you throw the ball 25 times a game, there are only so many footballs to go around.

When Davis had production, people complained about Crabtree.
Now that Crabtree has production, people complain about Davis.

There are only so many footballs to go around. Complain about the number of footballs we throw if you want to complain about something with this offense.
Brady threw what, like 65 passes? Would you rather do THAT? That would certainly get everybody involved in the passing game; but of course, then people would complain about Gore and the running game.

I don't see why people can't see this? If VD played with Brady and they passed 55 times a game and actually know how to use a TE he would put up 1,500 yards. 15 + TD's.

ALL I'M SUGGESTING IS THAT WE NEED TO TARGET VERNON MORE THAN ONCE OR TWICE A GAME!! If we're not going to use him, we might as well trade him.

Why don't you rag on the OC and playcalling? Because there you have a legitimate point. The first half of the season VD did put up big #'s in both yards and TD's. Because we actually called his # once in a while....

But we are using him. He's the strongest TE in the NFL. This is a big factor in the run game. In SNF he was wide open for a TD, CK just missed the throw.

So it didn't work that one time... Why not try it again later or try some other plays to get him the ball? And honestly, Vernon could have made more of an effort on that play. He doesn't run very good routes and he alligator arms it frequently.

What? Hell no. Vernon is a beast, we just arent utilizing him correctly.

Call him alligator arms to his face.
Intriguing, but as soon as he busts loose in a playoff games watch out. Kap just missed him against the Pats. He throws deep, Vernon goes deep, end of discussion.
Not just no but hell no. Receiving threat, good blocker, great team player, classy guy, tremendous athlete, no way you let someone like that slip away if you can help it. This isn't fantasy football where you just jettison a guy because he's no putting up numbers.
