The 49ers have been getting off the blocks slowly, they can't do this against the Pats.

Put Tarrell Brown on Wes Welker, Carlos Rodgers on Brandon Lloyd, and Chris Culliver on Aaron Hernandez. Rush 4 players (Smith, Smith, McDonald, Brooks). Goldson is infinitely better in coverage than any Texans safety so can also man up on Hernandez in 3 wr,1 TE sets.
While this will expose our team to the run, we can afford to do this simply because we have the two best mlb in the NFL (Willis and Bowman) and arguably the best run defending safety (Whitner) who we could shift closer to the line of scrimmage in run support. Force the Patriots to beat us with the run and we will throw their offense out of rhythm.
Cant play man against Brady for very long, if at all. He just chews that stuff up. Gotta try and confuse him with zones IMO, and have faith in our nickel a lot of the time to stop the run out of pass formations which we struggle with this year, last year we could stop the run with two down lineman and 9 players 25 yards back.
Our defense is the type of defense though that Tom Brady probably hates to play, just big strong athletic players at every position, and in games like these its all about limiting the YAC, we take away those big plays well, and we rush to the tackler when were on and stop them. Welker and Hernandez are key to winning for us, slow them considerably and we will be ok on D. Gronk if he comes back probably wont be 100% and we match well with bigger physical guys. Still a hell of a task for Fangio though.

Agreed, but every NFL team seems to suck at covering these types these days. There's really only two ways I see us stopping him.
1) when he plays inside in the slot we need to jam him off the LOS with either the olb or the covering corner (in this case we'd want a more physical corner like Cox or Culliver)
2) When he plays on the outside we need to cover him with the quickest db (Brown) and play inside leverage (force the slow developing out routes where a safety can get involved and prevent the quick inside routes Welker is famous for).

Good job by NE shutting down their running game. Kaeper is going to have to find Crabby, Moss, and VD

Well we have the best running game in the league, so we better use it. All I gotta say.

Anyone else hate the Patriots? Used to kind of like them but they have been way too good for way too long.

can not allow them to get off to a good start. can not make it easy for them. hit brady. and please no drive extending penalties. if our team does the same s**t sunday night as they did vs the rams and miami, it will get ugly. the pat and seahawks make you pay for mistakes with touchdowns. with some of our road games we have not been ready to play. again you do that sunday night we will get clocked on national tv

I know we haven't been too good at using it the past month. Hope we go October 49ers on them.

Yeah Colin Kaepernick going up against a Bill Belichick defense..not good for us...
add in that the fact that Bill likes to be a douchebag and run up the score....I see the Patriots winning this game.
Patriots 45
49ers 7

lol they havent been one of the nfl's best defenses lately. Im more worried about Seattle then NE
Neither have the niners
For the last 5 games how many ppg has our defense allowed? Not many, our defense is still one of if not the best in the nfl. So I don't know where you are getting that sentiment

Back in the 2004 draft the 49ers had the16th pick which they traded to the Eagles. Vince Wilfork went at 21........... just dreaming.
