Not necessarily. Didn't the last three SB winners, at least, play in the first round? Maybe the team goes stale sitting around in the bye week.
It's true, only one team within the past 8 years to win a post-season 'bye' ended up winning it all (the Saints), and you could chalk that up to them not even having to play outside of a 'dome environment' all the way up until the Superbowl (itself).
Not too worried about not getting that bye, cause we could easily be hosting the Bears in the first round, then go on the road and slosh GB again (no matter how hot they are right now, they match up to our personnel no better than we do against the Giants), and get back to the Championship game.
