11 Smith, Alex QB 2014 $9,750,000
22 Rogers, Carlos CB 2015 $7,100,000
15 Crabtree, Michael WR 2014 $5,859,000
59 Goodwin, Jonathan C 2013 $5,016,667
82 Manningham, Mario WR 2013 $4,950,000
31 Whitner, Donte SS 2013 $4,833,333
4 Lee, Andy P 2018 $4,050,000
2 Akers, David PK 2013 $3,606,667
98 Haralson, Parys OLB 2013 $2,870,000

You are not looking at the numbers correctly. The team will not save the dollar amount you posted if they cut one of these players, they will only save the base and any roster/workout bonus not earned.

Take Carlos Rodgers for example. His base for 2013 is $5.5 million, roster and workout bonus is only $350,000 combined, the signing bonus makes up the rest and still has to be paid. So cutting him would only save $5.85 million next year, not $7.1. And you still have to...

a.) pay him his signing bonus of $1.25 million next year AND EVERY YEAR FOR THREE YEARS AFTER NEXT YEAR, all of which counts against the cap regardless of if he is on the team or not,
and
b.) still have to sign a CB to replace him, who will have to be paid and may or may not be better than he is.

Things are not as simple as looking at a player's total cap number for 2013 when analyzing these things.

Why everyone so down on Rogers? Dude matches up one on one with a teams top reciever. Outside of Revis island (who makes like 17 million or something), everyone gets beat once in a while. Whens the last time he was beat deep for a td? So he loses a few to Cruz? Big deal, Cruzs is elite and so is the guy throwing him the ball. To expect Rogers to not even give up a 5 yard slant is unrealistic. He's a great cover man and very good against the run. BTW, I thought we were one of the top rated pass defenses. We aren't number 1 in D, because Rogers is mediocare.

People seem to think that other team's CB's never make a bad decision or get beat, and those that do suck. It is maddening. EVERY NFL corner back gets beat. Even the best.

Marshawn Lynch is a different kind of back. Wasn't he the first back to score a running TD on us last year? As for Ahmad Bradshaw, the was a bad game all around for the entire team. Did you notice how the other RBs have looked against us this year? Our run D is fine without Parys Haralson.

Agreed, especially since Harralson was a liability setting the edge in the run game anyways. He may be a better pass coverage LB than Aldon Smith at this point, but he was just as big of a liability in the run game, if not a bigger one.

That may be true and cut this season.. remember the off season NO ONE wanted him and we still overpaid

No, I don't.

If you are talking about last offseason every one of those players would have had to have been cut if we signed Peyton Manning, and we would be playing with undrafted rookies in their place right now.

Read much? "There will be dead space money involved"
FYI, Rogers has $1.25M a year for 3 years left of pro-rated signing bonus left after 2012, that's a total of $3.75M, if cut before June 1st, we have ti swallow that entirely onto the 2013 cap, if cut after june 1st, only $1.25m counts as dead money in 2013, and the rest on 2014 cap. You can't prorate bonus as dead money over life of contract.

Also $1.7M is guaranteed of his $5.5M base in 2013 already, it become fully guaranteed on April 1st if on roster. We will only save at most $1.65M, because he would be cut before June 1st.
Gone:

Goodwin = cost too much for level of play and in comes Kilgore.

Crabs = he has played better this year but will never be the #1 he thinks he is and will want big money to stay when he is a FA. No way Trent ponies up that much for him so we trade him. Plus we have Jenkins, Manningham, Williams and VD.

Haralson = dude is not getting the job done, period.

Either Rodgers or Whitner = can't keep both so one goes.

Anybody noticed that weve allowed 2 100 yard rushers this season while Haralson been injured???? Cant get rid of our best coverage OLB.....
