Wilson's numbers (9-of-23, 122 yards, no touchdowns, one interception) were even worse, though in fairness to the rookie, there were at least five blatant drops by his receivers. And while Harbaugh got away with playing it safe in this particular game, it's hard to envision his team as a bona fide Super Bowl contender if the quarterback isn't trusted to take a shot at the end zone when the opportunity presents itself.

In case you're dismissing this as pure media-driven negativity, consider the responses I got from two key 49ers offensive players in the locker room after the game.

"Sometimes it's like that," tight end Vernon Davis, who had zero catches, said when asked about the quarterback draw. "Of course everybody wants to make their mark and help the team win. We'll take what we can get."

Wideout Michael Crabtree (four catches, 31 yards) shook his head when I asked the same question.

"I don't want to talk about it, bro," he said. "Cause I know if I say something. … We won – you know what I mean? I can't say anything, because we won."

I would of preferred a regular run in that situation. We were gashing them with Gore at that point of the game. However, I think that Roman thought he could surprise them and Seattle made a good stop.

Alex is the most frustrating qb in the league to watch! Hes been around so long and done the same crap. any time he rolls right and throws it out of bounds, no matter how legit it seems< I hate it and want to slap him. For how smart everyone says he is.. i really have a hard time believing that. Now mark my words : just when it gets unbearable and you start to think controversy liie now..HE SNAPS... he will have a hell of a game Against the cards and silence people until the next time and that will continue until he is released or traded. sad story but true. Kaep will never replace Alex as long as Alex is on this team.. Trust me, Ive known alex for awhile now and you all should no this as well

Was listening to KNBR on my lunch and they were finally talking niner football for a change. Kevin Lynch was on and saying how Alex has regressed each time he has had the same OC two years in a row. The last time was Jimmy Raye when everybody thought he would break out but ended up having an awful start to the season and Raye ended up getting fired. Basically was saying how he cant take that next step to being a good QB when the coaches end up putting the game plan around him. They said that we would probably have to dial the offense back like it was last year.
