Before anybody asks why I didn't put Jacobs in, he's injured and isn't gonna play the rest of the pre-season

His name is GORE not GIRE. Also, your comments about Jacobs are obviously ridiculous. Why don't you learn the names and injury status of the players before posting?

James will be fine. Oregon graduation was after OTAs so he didn't get a whole lot out of the off-season. He will be fine, if a bit of a latecomer.

Dixon will get cut. He had his chance against Texans and blew a 4th and 1. Now that we know Jacobs' injury isn't serious, he's gone.

The depth chart is Gore then Hunter. That's pretty much it because, barring injury, I don't really see James (for 2012 at least) and especially Jacobs ever being the back for an entire drive/6-7+ plays in a row. They're both going to be used in very situational roles i.e. Jacobs on 3rd or 4th and short or on the goal line and James I believe won't have a huge role as a rookie, maybe just 6 or 7 snaps a game as a change of pace/3rd down back. I would expect Gore and Hunter to combine for about 90% of our carries. So that's how I view it - 2 actual all-around backs and 2 situational backs.

The thing I don't get is why Cartwright is so much more of a roster lock than Dixon. Dixon is nearly 8 years younger, just as cheap, presumably just as good of a special teamer (after all, he was a key ST member of our amazing ST last year), is a good locker room guy who has already spent 2 years with the organization, and is more likely to do better should he be forced to play some offense. What is the significant advantage that Cartwright holds??

Wrong, Cartwright was brought in to be the new Costanzo, which he can do more than him, RB, Return, ST Ace. He isn't worthless, he has done this for years.

Actually really not a lot cheaper, make almost the same thanks to veteran minimum credits, yes he makes $925K, but he counts $540K against the cap.
