What are some of the numbers in regards to the skill position roster spots?
Can we trully keep 6 RB's & 6 WR?
Will Palmer & Owusu (sp) trully have a chance to make it onto the 53 man roster?

I just don't see how we have room. One of the guys is going to have to show a tremendous amount of talent in order for them to stick around. I also believe they will have to be an asset in ST's. Not sure if they are getting work in that area or not?

Owusu no, Palmer has a shot.
The coaches will tip their hand during the preseason. If Palmer plays allot, the assumption would be the coaches are seriously considering 6 receivers on the final roster. If he seems like he is being held out, it shows that they want to sneak him on the PS.
IMO we are gonna go with 6 receivers. Crabtree is dinged up once again, even though these injuries dissapear during the regular season (...wierd), Moss has been consistent but at 35 his body might not hold up without a muscle pull during the season. Then look at the size of our other receivers... MM, Williams, and Jenkins are not big so they could easily get some dings during the season. Manningham has only had one healthy season in his 4 years in the league, Williams has a concussion history... and most importantly last year we got burned by not having WR depth, it would be horrible management to let that burn us two years in a row.
This staff likes to hold on to potential and not risk letting them get away, last year it was Williams and Dobbs, this year my guess will be Palmer and possibly Jerod-Eddie. Williams may get pushed to the PS, and if the #3 spot is close behind CK/JJ or Tolzein... the team can keep 2 QBs and stash Tolzein on the PS too opeining up another spot at a different position.

The WR position remains a bit of a question mark but certainly not to the degree it was last season. Crabtree's injury will give more reps to the younger guys and it is now up to them to take advantage. If they do, that, along with Moss' age and the injury history 5280 outlined above, opens a door.

Palmer has a better chance, but it is still a very small chance. I see them both going to the PS. Still say we keep 6 WRs on the 53 though.
(injuries, of course can play a part here.. knock knock)

supposedly Palmer has been tearing it up in training camp. I don't think he'd make it to our practice squad if he keeps getting hyped up. I think there's a chance of him making the 53 man roster.

That's my thinking as well. There are usually some injuries in camp and this team now has enough depth to weather dings to most positions. WR would be one of the best for depth...as opposed to last year when the depth was Williams and Ginn. Now Williams and Gin have to compete for the fifth and sixth spots (although Ginn would be an automatic for me as a returner).
But before everyone goes gaga over Palmer remember that TCs always have little known media darlings who tend to fade away once the games get serious. Moss, Manningham, Crabtree, Ginn and Jenkins are locks...so the last spot would be up for grabs with Williams looking every bit as good as Palmer.

if they go to the PS, i dont see them staying there. Someone with lil talent at WR will pick em up especially when it gets further into the season and there are alot of injuries

Truth is; as bad as the 49er WRs have been the last few years, why would any team want to pick up a guy that was not good enough to make the team this year? Moss and Manningham are not THAT good.

No issue with 6 WRs and 6 RBs on this roster. It's then whether we keep a 3rd TE or 9th OL, with 3 QBs. That would be 26 offensive players, including Cartwright.
The issue of Palmer making it seems like a NO, he won't be used in preseason much in hopes of sneaking him onto the P-Sqaud according to Maiocco.
The 26 offensive would be
QB- Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick, Josh Johnson
RB- Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, Brandon Jacobs, LaMichael James, Rock Cartwright
FB- Bruce MIller
WR- Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Ted Ginn Jr., Kyle Williams, A.J. Jenkins
TE- Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker
C- Jonathan Goodwin
OG- Mike Iupati, Alex Boone, Daniel Kilgore, Leonard Davis
OT- Joe Staley, Anthony Davis, Mike Person
26th would be TE Nate Byham, OG Joe Looney or C Jason Slowey.
Palmer, along with Owusu and Scott Tolzien would be P-Squad destined.
