The best CB through seven practices has been Tarell Brown. Rogers has also performed well. Those two are the starters. Culliver appears to be solid as the third CB. So, now, we're talking about the fourth CB. Although Brock is ahead of Cox on the current depth chart, Cox is ahead of Brock at the NB position. Cox's versatility is his strength. He can play outside, inside and he can also return punts.

Kaepernick entered camp as the No. 2 QB, and I believe he'll replace Smith at some point early in Friday's exhibition opener against the Vikings. Up to this point, though, he is certainly not pulling away from reserves Josh Johnson or Scott Tolzien.
so i guess we draw from that, is that if the season began today the team would have no idea who the official number two quarterback is! i would think in the next three weeks, someone will seperate themselves, or at least i hope so

yes,. between that, the log jam at running back and wide out spots, the right gaurd spot and the secondary situation, it will actually be fun to watch pre season game, minus the idiot replacement refs
^ I think it's safe to say Harbaugh and Roman have a better idea of who it will be than maiocco. Don't forget these beats are just giving their opinion based on watching practice from 80 yards away...
I fully believe once the live bullets come out, starting this friday the depth chart will get sorted out in fairly short order. It will be fun to watch position battles take place through the preseason. We have heavy competition all across the offense, plus some back up D and special teams rolls that could change hands if somebody really comes to play. Could be the most fun preseason in years. The talent level has finally gotten to a place where some good roster players wont make the cut comming out of camp for the 9ers.

This is so true and it is the first year (in a long time) than almost any late cut will be a sad one. DL, WR, RB, DB, LB, QB, are all loaded and the OL may be as well. I'm trying to figure out which cut will come back to bite? Palmer? DL? What a problem to have!

This.

Nobody knows the progress they are making, only Harbs and Co. If these beat writers were soo good they would be working for the NFL as qb coach or something but they're not. So, until we see them in action or Harbs comes out and says something( which he wont) we wont really know

Yah it seems he is wearing #40 now. I also thought he looked pretty good at DL last year in the pre season.

At least his roster spot looks locked up. I was glad when he made the teams last year.

i like how Harbaugh is free up other positions to really keep the best players on the team
Dobbs was impressive in the last preseason. Seems to have impressed as a TE now too. Great for us. Put one of the Reuland/Byham kids on the PS and that opens up a spot.
